TORCH MAINTENANCE

WARNING! Unplug the cutting unit before replacing
consumables to avoid an injury from accidental activation of
the plasma torch.
The electrode, nozzle and protective cup will require cleaning
and replacement over time. The electrode will slowly wear
away as it is used to ignite the pilot plasma. The nozzle will
become contaminated with dross during the cutting process.
The protective cup can crack or be damaged. Disassemble the
torch to replace or clean the components.
1.
Make sure the plasma cutter is shut down.
2.
Disconnect the air supply.
3.
Unscrew the protective cup (Fig. 3-4). Inspect and replace if
the protective outer material is cracked, damaged or burnt.
3.1 Waste material may accumulate on the protective cup
and may cause the
arc to connect to
the side and prevent
the pilot plasma
from igniting. Clean
the protective cup
of waste material.
4. Check the nozzle (Fig. 3-3) and distributor (Fig. 3-2) and
replace if damaged or burnt.
5.
Unscrew the electrode (Fig. 3-1). Check for damage or if it
is worn down to less than 2 mm. In either case replace the
electrode.
5.1 If the electrode or cutting nozzle has swirling stains on it,
moisture is present in the compressed air. Install a drying
mechanism or filter on the air hose from the compressor
to the plasma cutting unit.
6. Reassemble the plasma torch and plug into the plasma
cutting unit when ready to resume cutting.
