5.2.10 Setting Peak Load Shaving with increased Self-consumption (Multi-Use)
Figure 27: LCS-Tool - Setting the Peak Load Shaving function
INFORMATION
This function can only be used in battery storage
systems.
• Recommendation: In PV systems, leave this
function disabled.
With the Peak Load Shaving function in combination with
the power analyzer UMG 604-PRO from Janitza
electronics GmbH, the behavior of the
Sunny Tripower Storage 60 on the power exchange at the
grid-connection point can be optimized in order to save
energy costs. Adding the SoC threshold parameter makes
it possible to combine peak load shaving and increased
self-consumption. As a result, this combination makes it
possible to further reduce energy costs.
The SOC threshold parameter divides the utilization range
of the battery into 2 subranges: one subrange above
SOC threshold and one subrange below
SOC threshold. In these subranges, different values for
Consumption Limit and Feed-In Limit can be entered.
The SoC threshold hysteresis parameter can be used to
extend the setting range for the switchover threshold
specified by the SoC threshold. This extension is
symmetrical around the SoC threshold setpoint. The setting
range for SoC threshold hysteresis is 1% to 5% (default
value: 1%).
If, for example, an SoC threshold of 50% is set and an
SoC threshold hysteresis of 3%, then the Consumption
Limit is switched at an SoC of 53% (50% + 3%) and the
Feed-In Limit is switched at an SoC of 47% (50% - 3%).
Input values for Peak Load Shaving
The Consumption Limit value specifies the maximum power
that may be obtained from the utility grid. If this power is
exceeded, the storage system discharges to cut the peak

load. The Feed in Limit value specifies the power from which
the storage system recharges. This value depends on the
peak loads to be expected and must be adapted to the
application during planning and commissioning.
An input value for Consumption Limit is interpreted by the
SMA Inverter Manager as a positive value, an input value
for Feed-in Limit as a negative value.
If the SMA Inverter Manager, for example, has to limit the
grid reference power to +50 kW and charge the battery
below a grid reference power of +10 kW, the value 50
must be entered for Consumption Limit and the value -10
for Feed-in Limit.
In order for the peak load shaving to work, the following
conditions must be observed when configuring the values:
• The peak load to be cut must not be greater than the
output power of the battery inverter.
• The energy of the peak load must not be greater than
the capacity of the battery.
• The charging energy must be slightly greater than the
discharging energy D.
• In case of significant changes in the load or generation
profile, the parameters must be adjusted accordingly.
Input values for increased self-consumption:
If the value for Consumption Limit and the value for
Feed-in Limit is set to 0, this corresponds to the classical
increased self-consumption of PV power without the shaving
of peak loads.
