4.0 TRAINING
4.1
It is the responsibility of all users of this equipment to understand these instructions and to be trained in
the correct installation, use, and maintenance of this equipment. These individuals must be aware of the
consequences of improper installation or use of this equipment. This user manual is not a substitute for a
comprehensive training program. Training must be provided on a periodic basis to ensure profi ciency of the
users.
IMPORTANT: Training must be conducted without exposing the trainee to a fall hazard. Training should
be repeated on a periodic basis.
5.0 INSPECTION
5.1
UNSAFE OR DEFECTIVE CONDITIONS: If inspection reveals an unsafe or defective condition, remove the
Rope or Rope Grab from service immediately and destroy it.
IMPORTANT: Do not alter or attempt to repair the Rope Grab. Do not make substitutions for the Rope or
Rope Grab parts. Repairs may only be performed by an authorized service center.
5.2
PRODUCT LIFE: The functional life of Viper™ LT Manual Rope Grabs and Ropes is determined by work
conditions and maintenance. As long as the product passes inspection criteria, it may remain in service.

Inspection:
Inspect the pivot pin (A). The button in the pin should spring back out when pushed down. The
pin should slide easily through the Rope Grab body and cam/clamp assembly.
Inspect the function of the cam/clamp assembly (B). The cam should move freely, with no
sticking or binding. The cam wedge must engage and lock onto the lifeline. The cam spring
must be in place and undamaged. The D-ring must be free of corrosion, cracks, or other
deformities.
Inspect the Rope Grab body (C). The Rope Grab body must be free of wear, corrosion, cracks,
or other deformities.
All markings on the Rope Grab must be present and fully legible (D).
Web Lanyard model AC4001: The webbing material must be free of frayed, cut, or broken
fi bers. Check for tears, abrasions, mold, burns, or discoloration, etc. The webbing must be free
of knots, excessive soiling, heavy paint buildup, and rust staining. Check for chemical or heat
damage indicated by brown, discolored, or brittle areas. Check for ultraviolet damage indicated
by discoloration and the presence of splinters or slivers on the webbing surface. All of the above
factors are known to reduce webbing strength. Inspect stitching for pulled or cut stitches. In
addition, for model AC4002: Check that there is no visible damage to the connection between
the energy absorber and the Viper LT Rope grab. Also, check that the energy absorber element
is intact, in good condition and has not been deployed.
Inspect the Rope for damage or malfunction which may have been caused by (and not limited
to) temperature, the effect of sharp edges, chemical reagents, electrical conductivity, cutting,
abrasion, UV degradation, other climatic conditions or excessive wear.
Record inspection dates and results in the Inspection and Maintenance Log in this document.
Inspect the Full Body Harness per the manufacturer's instructions.
