1.0 APPLICATIONS
1.1 PURPOSE: The Viper™ LT Manual Rope Grab and Rope are intended to be used as part of a personal
restraint or fall arrest device (Figure 3). The rope grab provides a portable lanyard connection point on a
rope lifeline.
Restraint systems prevent the user from reaching a fall hazard (example: leading edge roof work). A typical
restraint system includes a rope grab, lifeline, positioning lanyard, and full body harness. No vertical free fall
is permitted.

The Rope Grabs in this Instruction Manual are not designed for use as a direct connector to a tensioned
horizontal life line system. Applications include: inspection work, construction, demolition, maintenance,
oil production, confi ned space rescue, and window washing. The Rope Grab can also be used to ascend a
vertical ladder using the 12.5mm Kernmantle rope.

RESCUE PLAN: When using this equipment and connecting subsystem(s), the employer must have a rescue
plan and the means at hand to implement and communicate that plan to users, authorized persons, and
rescuers.
1.4
TRAINING: The Rope and Rope Grab must always be used together. This equipment is intended to be used by persons
trained in its correct application and use. It is the responsibility of the user to assure they are familiar with these
instructions and are trained in the correct care and use of this equipment. Users must also be aware of the operating
characteristics, application limits, and the consequences of improper use. This equipment is designed to arrest a fall
at height; consideration should be given to the user's age, fi tness and physical or mental limitations that could have a
detrimental affect on the safe use of this equipment.
CAUTION: Training must be conducted without exposing the user to a fall hazard. Training should be repeated on a periodic basis.
1.5
INSPECTION FREQUENCY: The Rope and Rope Grab must be inspected by the user before each use by
following the procedures defi ned in "Inspection Checklist" (Table 1)" and, additionally, by a competent person
other than the user at intervals of no more than one year
should be recorded in the "Inspection and Maintenance Log" in the back of this manual. If there is any doubt
about the condition of the equipment it must be removed from service until it is confi rmed to be fi t for use
and documented in writing by a competent person.
1.6
PRODUCT RESALE: If this Rope and/or Rope Grab is re-sold outside the original country of destination, the re-seller
shall provide instructions for use, maintenance, periodic examination and repair in the language of the country in which
the product is to be used.

One who is capable of identifying existing and predictable hazards in the surroundings or working conditions which are unsanitary,
hazardous, or dangerous to employees, and who has authorization to take prompt corrective measures to eliminate them.
