Mikro-Dismembrators
Laboratory ball mills for fine grinding
The Micro-Dismembrator U and Micro-
Dismembrator S from Sartorius have proven
their worth in many laboratories world-wide.
Even the most difficult materials can be
reliably disintegrated. Whereas the Mikro-
Dismembrator U with its shaking frequency of
–1
2.000 min
is suitable for most applications,
the Micro-Dismembrator S with a maximum
–1
frequency of 3.000 min
is especially well
suited for fast homogenization of samples
frozen in liquid nitrogen, for instance of
biopsy materials in cancer diagnosis.
Thanks to the high efficiency of shaking with
grinding balls, samples are rapidly disinte-
grated – resulting in a much faster isolation
of DNA, RNA and proteins than with proto-
cols involving manual grinding processes,
thereby reducing the risk of sample degrada-
tion.
In addition, the use of enzymes, which are
often employed for cell lysis, can be replaced.
Thus the introduction of foreign proteins,
which may interfere with subsequent analysis,
is avoided. This is particularly advantageous
in proteome research.
Reproducibility of the disintegration process
is guaranteed by the digitally controlled
shaking frequency and shaking time. This
ensures comparable results even within large
series of experiments – another big advan-
tage over any manual processes.
In botany or environmental analysis, the
Micro-Dismembrators serve to grind needles,
seeds and other hard plant materials. In food
analysis, hair samples are pulverized to check
whether animals have been treated with ille-
gal feed additives. In medical research,
pathology or toxicology, the units are used
to disrupt frozen tissue samples, hair, bone or
cartilage samples or teeth. Microbiologists
can disintegrate frozen cell sediments. In
chemistry, pigments are ground to a uniform
particle size.
In combination with a large range of various
shaking flasks, grinding balls and glass
beads, the Micro-Dismembrator units can
be adapted to many different and individual
applications.
