• Check the condition of the lanyard along its entire
length (figure 3.a):
– the strap must not show any signs of abrasion,
GB
fraying, burns or cuts.
• Check that the lanyard locks when you pull sharply
on its end (figure 3.b) and that it winds and unwinds
normally along its entire length.
• Check the condition of the casing (no signs of
deformation, screws in place...).
• Check the condition and operation of the connectors:
no signs of deformation, connectors open, close and
lock correctly.
• Check the state of the harness and connector
attachments (figures 3.c – 3.d). Refer to the specific
manuals for each of the products.
• Check the complete fall-arrester system.
• If in doubt, immediately withdraw all equipment to
prohibit its use.
4. Functions and description
Every time before use, check (figure 1):
• The
blocfor™
retractable fall-arrester complying with standard
EN 360. This equipment must only be used by a
single operator equipped with a fall-arresting harness
(EN 361).
• The blocfor™ self-retracting fall-arrester must only
be used for protection of operators against falls when
working at heights.
• The operator must not exceed a 20° working angle
from the vertical of the anchor point (Figure 1.c for
blocfor™ B1.8A and B1.8B EVO ESD only).
• The operator will be able to use the device for vertical
and horizontal movements
• It is recommended that the structural anchor points
are at least at the height of the operator. In exceptional
cases the anchorage point may also be lower, but not
lower than the height of the operator, to overcome falls
of factor 2, or for falls from flat roofs.
• The blocfor™ self-retracting fall-arrester must be
protected against the infiltration of any material inside
the housing (paint, sand, mud, etc.).
• Limitations of use (figure 1).
• The working load of the blocfor™ self-retracting fall-
arrester is 150 kg. By reference to their respective
manuals, you must make sure before use that all the
components of the fall-arrest system are compatible
with this load. If this is not the case, the maximum load
will be that of the fall-arrest system component with
the lowest maximum load.
• Operating temperature: -30°C to +50°C for blocfor™
self-retracting fall-arresters.
Blocfor™ EVO ESD self-retracting fall arresters
must not be used in an environment where there
is: risk of sparks being projected, risk of contact of
a flame with the polyethylene strap of the self-

self-retracting
fall-arrester
retracting fall arrester. The melting point of the
polyethylene strap is 140°C.
Extra precautions must be taken in situations where this
temperature could be reached and in particular if the
strap rubs against the edge.
• The blocfor™ 1.8A EVO ESD self-retracting fall-
arrester (figure 5.a) must be secured to an anchor
point, with a resistance (R) of 12 kN or more, using the
connector located at the top of the device. The M47
connector secured at the end of the energy absorber
of the retractable lanyard must always be connected
to one of the fall-arrest anchor points of the harness.
Any other combination in use is dangerous and
prohibited.
• The blocfor™ 1.8B EVO ESD self-retracting fall-
arrester (figure 5.b) must be connected using its
M47 connector attached at the end of the energy
absorber to one of the fall-arrest anchor points of the
harness. The connector at the end of the retractable
lanyard must be connected to an anchor point with a
resistance (R) anchor of 12 kN or more.

• The blocfor™ 1.8 DUO EVO ESD self-retracting fall
arrester (figure 6) must be connected by its M47
connector fixed at the end of the energy absorber
to one of the fall arrest harness attachment points.
The connectors at the end of the retractable straps
must be connected to at least one anchor point with a
resistance (R) anchor of 12 kN or more.
Any other combination of use is dangerous and
prohibited. Never hook one of the connectors at
the end of the retractable straps onto the operator.
When using the blocfor™ 1.8 DUO EVO ESD, the
operator must never hook one of the connectors
at the end of the retractable strap onto his
harness, except at the fuse points provided for
this purpose, e.g. the fuse anchors of the X-PAD
Horizontal use:
blocfor™ automatic fall arrest devices B 1.8 A, B &
DUO EVO ESD, have been tested for horizontal use
according to the European sheet PPE-R/11.060_V1
according to type A on 0.5 mm radius edge minimum.
see technical specification table above.
If the operator must deviate more than 1.50 m from the
perpendicular to the anchor point of the blocfor™ self-
retracting fall arrester, it is imperative to use an anchor
that complies with standard EN 795 of type C or D.
If the arrest is considered to be cutting, or if there
is a sharp edge present, take all possible
