BPW height adjustment and support devices

General information
Height adjustment and support devices are used for maintaining the coupling height on
vertically pivoting drawbar installations, and prevent them from lowering.
Attaching a height adjustment device is a legal requirement. The requirements in this
regard are regulated in a similar way both nationally and internationally (Appendix 1).
In contrast, support devices are only used for assisting the height adjustment devices in
order to allow the coupling height of heavy drawbar installations to be set to an optimum
position.
Using a support device on its own is not permitted!
BPW height adjustment and support devices
BPW height adjustment products are matched to the BPW drawbar range. They offer
the user the opportunity to set appropriate coupling heights in a convenient way.
When BPW height adjustment and support devices are used on drawbars from other
manufacturers, it is essential to comply with the relevant operating and installation
regulations from the vehicle manufacturer and from the manufacturer(s) of the other
vehicle components.
The operating permit will be cancelled if parts of the BPW height adjustment or support
device are modified on the vehicle or in their construction as clearly established by
testing procedures or if their operation could endanger other road users.
The general certification lists all major components of the BPW height adjustment or
support device and modification is not permitted.
We strongly recommend that only genuine BPW parts be used when fitting spare
parts. Parts authorised by BPW for trailer axles and axle units are regularly
subjected to special inspections. BPW accepts product liability for them.
BPW is unable to assess whether every single third party product can be used with BPW
trailer axles and axle units without any safety risk; this also applies even if an authorised
testing organisation has accepted the product.
