13. Using SmartMode® Technology and/or Optional Wireless Foot Pedal
Follow standard prophylaxis procedures as you would with any corded prophy device.
Applying excessive force to the polishing surface may slow or stop the rotation of the DPA and result in ineffective
polishing. You only need to apply a light pressure during polishing, enough to flare the lip of the rubber cup slightly
subgingivally and into the interproximal spaces. Avoid direct contact on gingival tissues as speed increases with pressure.
The DPA (motor) will only rotate in one direction.
Sleep Mode (if cordless handpiece is not in a powered charging base):
After 1 minute of non-use, the cordless handpiece will enter a Sleep Mode and the charge indicators and mode
indicator will turn off. Upon picking up the handpiece within 1 hour, the Mode Indicator and charge indicators will
illuminate and the unit will enter Standby Mode.
After 1 hour of inactivity, the cordless handpiece will turn off to conserve battery charge. After this, the On/OFF/Mode
Button will need to be pressed to bring the handpiece into Standby Mode.
13.1
Attach the sterilized Outer Sheath to the cordless handpiece inner module and then attach the DPA.
13.2
To operate the cordless handpiece in SmartMode:
With the cordless handpiece in Standby Mode (Mode Indicator solid Green), press the On/Off/Mode button quickly
and verify that the Mode Indicator changes from solid Green to solid Purple to indicate that the unit is in SmartMode.
Note that the DPA cup/tip/brush will begin to rotate at a low baseline speed of 500 rpm.
13.2.1
Press the cup of the DPA into the prophy paste applying a downward force and light pressure.
13.2.2
SmartMode will allow you to control the speed of the DPA cup based upon the pressure applied from the
DPA cup to the tooth. By slightly increasing the pressure, the speed of the DPA cup will increase. By reducing
pressure, the speed of the DPA cup will decrease. When the DPA cup is removed from the tooth surface, the
DPA cup will return to a low baseline speed.
13.2.3
You may exit SmartMode (stop the DPA cup from spinning) by pressing the On/Off/Mode button or by quickly
tapping the optional wireless foot pedal. A solid Green Mode Indicator shows that the cordless handpiece is
in Standby Mode. Should the optional wireless foot pedal be synchronized to the handpiece, you may then
control the rotation speed using the optional wireless foot pedal.
13.2.4
To enter SmartMode again, press the On/Off/Mode button quickly. The Mode Indicator will change from Green
to Purple and the DPA cup will begin spinning at a low baseline speed.
13.3
To operate the cordless handpiece with the optional wireless foot pedal:
Set the handpiece in Standby Mode (with the Mode Indicator solid Green).
