Safety conditions
Note
Incorrect handling can lead to malfunctioning.
• Make sure that the specifications in this chapter are always observed.
• Compare the maximum values in these operating instructions with your actual application
(e.g. pressures, temperatures).
• Also observe national regulations and the specifications of standards EN ISO 4414, EN 574 and
EN ISO 13849-1.
• Use a service unit of the MS or D-series from Festo for preparing the compressed air (
• Take suitable measures to ensure the minimum pressure of 4 bar necessary for operation.
A pressure sequence valve of type VD-3-PK-3, for example, is suitable here (
• Remove the packaging except for the adhesive labels on the compressed air supply ports (to
prevent dirt).
• Observe local regulations when disposing of the product and its packaging.
• Use the product in its original status, without any unauthorised
product modifications. The individual components are fixed with
screw locking agent (
Fig. 3).

Installation
5.1
Mechanical assembly
1. Place the product so that the filter for the breathing opening 4 is not covered.
2. Fasten the product with two M5 screws via the through holes 6 or with two M5 screws via the
fastening thread.
3. Install two 3/2-way push-button valves (
Fig. 2).
Caution
Any attempt to actuate the push-button valves with only one hand or with an elbow, a
knee or a foot will impede the safety function (
• Make sure the requirements for setting up two-hand push-button switching circuits
as per EN 574 are observed, e.g. by specifying the minimum distance between the
push-buttons.
• If necessary, take into account existing C-standards for your type of machine.
• Implement the measures as per EN 574.

5.2
Pneumatic fitting
1. Remove the transport covers on the compressed air connections.
2. Connect the tubing with the specified components (
Note
The product will function as intended providing it is set up correctly and if the
exhausting is correct.
• Use the same lengths of tubing between the push-button valves and the two-hand
control unit.
• Secure the hoses to the system to prevent them from moving in an uncontrolled
manner.
• Use only 3/2-way push-button valves.
• The outlet ports 3 must remain open to allow venting of the push-button valves.
Use a suitable silencer if required.
• If required, use a suitable silencer at outlet port 3 of the control block for two-hand
start (
www.festo.com/catalogue/zsb).
• Replace contaminated silencers if necessary.
