INDICATION
The catheters are used for cerebrospinal fluid
(CSF) drainage in the treatment of hydro-
cephalus.
TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION
The catheters from the company Christoph
Miethke GmbH & Co. KG have an inner diam-
eter of 1.2 mm and an outer diameter of
2.5 mm. With these dimensions, the pres-
sure characteristics of a shunt system are only
slightly affected. The catheters are dimen-
sioned to work safely with Miethke valves suit-
able for ventricular peritoneal CSF drainage.
Ventricular Catheter
The
Ventricular
catheters and contain barium sulfate. This
ensures that the X-ray image is clearly visi-
ble. In order to achieve a safe placement of
theVentricular Catheter it has number mark-
ings after 3, 5, 7, 10 cm and 13 cm distance
from the tip.
The Ventricular Catheters are produced in
such a way that the mandrin can be pushed-
forward into the tip. This prevents buckling
during implantation (fig. 1). The drill holes
begin 3 mm from the tip and end after 14 mm.
This prevents drainage from the ventricles to
the brain during implantation in very narrow
ventricles.

THOMALE CATHETER
The THOMALE CATHETER is a ventricular ca-
theter with 6 burrholes next to the tip of the
catheter. It is used preferably in the treatment
in case of narrow ventricles.

Peritoneal Catheter, barium striped
The peritoneal catheter, barium striped is a sil-
icone catheter with a stripe of BaSO
completly enclosed by silicone (fig. 4).
