5. Cleaning

l Only use drinking-quality water
for cleaning.
l Take apart and wash all parts that come
in contact with the breast and breastmilk
immediately after use to avoid dry up of
milk residues and to prevent growth of
bacteria.
l for chapter 5.3 Cleaning
the breastpump:
Unplug the breastpump before cleaning.
Note
l for step 2a (Chapter 5.2):
When boiling, a teaspoon of citric acid
may be added to the water to avoid a
build-up of limescale.
l Store the pump set in a clean bag/con-
tainer until next use. Or store it in clean
paper or a cloth.
l for step 1 (Chapter 5.3):
Unplug the breastpump before cleaning.
l Do not spray or pour liquid directly onto
the pump.
* Medela recommends to clean all parts
of the pump set (incl. piston /cylinder,
etc.) before used for the first time as
shown in Chapter 5.2.
5.2 Before using for the
first time and once a day

Disassemble the pump set
into individual parts.
The cylinder holder, piston/
cylinder and tubing do not
normally need to be washed.*

Dry with a clean cloth or
leave to dry on a clean cloth.
