Action
Carefully fill the pump body and the suction pipes checking
that no air is trapped inside, especially if the pump has a
mechanical seal.
Check that the air is expelled through the plug on the upper
support.
Turn the pump shaft manually, using a lever or a screwdriver
on the coupling if necessary, to check that the rotor turns
freely and is not blocked and also to expell air bubbles.
Before starting the electric pump reassemble the protec-
tion grids.
After connecting electrically, check that the motor rotation is
the one indicated by the arrow on the support.
Before starting the pump, check that the gate valve on
the delivery pipe is slightly open.
With the pump in function, open it gradually until the required
characteristics are obtained.
While the unit is running, use an ammeter to check that cur-
rent on each phase is correct and corresponds to the value
shown on the motor plate.
The thermal protection relay should always be regulated according to the current indicated on the plate in amps. or to a
lower value if the required functioning is obtained with a lower absorption value than rated. Note that the power voltage and
current are subject to variations in time for various circumstances; consequently the installation should be permanently
equipped with the necessary control equipment.
On pumps equipped with stuffing box packing, make sure that the packing leaks approx. 20 to 60 drops per minute; if the
packing is too tight, it is not lubricated and will overheat and be damaged, causing shaft rapid wear and motor overloa-
ding.

Maintenance
8.1
Ordinary maintenance
All maintenance operations must be performed only with the electricity distribution network disconnected and after
taking the necessary precautions to ensure that it can not be inadvertently reconnected.
Periodically check all electrical and hydraulic equipment. If the pump is out of service for a long period, action is needed to
avoid blocking. Until the pump body remains full of water and free of air, oxidation does not occur, except the occurrence
of crusting due to water quality. It is good practice to periodically rotate the shaft by hand. If the stop period is very long
and the pump is subject to harsh temperatures it is necessary to protect the pump by emptying it and dry it thoroughly with
compressed air. Alternatively, it is necessary to protect the pump by filling it with a mixture of water and propylenglycol (see
tab. 3).

This antifreeze solution also protects against corrosion and rust and is completely non-toxic and non pollutant (N.B. these characteristics are
not common to all antifreeze solutions).
