Guide to Using this Manual
Pictograms
The meanings of the pictograms
attached to the machine are explained in
this manual.
Depending on the model concerned, the
following pictograms may be attached to
your machine.
Key for locking and
unlocking
Symbols in text
WARNING
Warning where there is a risk of an
accident or personal injury or serious
damage to property.
NOTICE
Caution where there is a risk of
damaging the machine or its individual
components.
Engineering improvements
STIHL's philosophy is to continually
improve all of its products. For this
reason we may modify the design,
engineering and appearance of our
products periodically.
Therefore, some changes, modifications
and improvements may not be covered
in this manual.

Safety Precautions and
Working Techniques
Special safety measures
are necessary when
working with this
machine, because the
cutting blade is operated
at a very high speed.
Read the entire instruc-
tion manual before using
the machine for the first
time and keep it in a safe
place for future refer-
ence. Failure to comply
with the instruction man-
ual can be life-
threatening.
Instructions for use
Use the machine only for mowing lawns.
Do not mow wet grass.
Use of the machine for other purposes is
not permitted and may lead to accidents
and damage to the machine. Do not
make any modifications to the product –
this may also cause accidents or
damage.
General instructions
Observe country-specific safety
regulations, e.g. from employers' liability
insurance associations, social security
funds, occupational health and safety
authorities and others.
The use of noise-emitting machines may
be subject to time limits under national
as well as local regulations.
First time working with the machine:
Have the salesperson or another expert
explain how to use it safely.
Minors are not allowed to work with the
machine – except for youth over 16
years of age who are trained under
supervision.
Keep children, animals and bystanders
away.
The user is responsible for accidents or
injuries to other people or their property.
Only give or lend the machine to people
who are familiar with this model and its
handling – always include the instruction
manual.
The machine must only be operated by
people who are rested, healthy and in
good physical condition.
The user is physically, sensorily and
mentally capable of operating the
machine and working with it. If the user
is physically, sensorily or mentally
impaired, the machine must only be
used under supervision or following
instruction by a responsible person.
Children are not allowed to play with the
machine. Children must not maintain
and clean the machine without
supervision.
Individuals who are not allowed to exert
themselves for health reasons should
ask their doctor whether they should use
the machine.
The machine should not be operated
after the consumption of alcohol,
medications which impair reactions or
drugs.
