The fluid-fluid heat exchanger is an element of a system and, as such, it cannot function on its own: it is
in fact part of a more complex system not known to the exchanger manufacturer. During the
construction of the exchanger the characteristics of the other components of the installation are not
known, characteristics that define and determine the intrinsic risks of the entire system, which cannot
be treated in the risk analysis attached since the system design is defined and known only by the
customer. A typical installation, representing only a cooling condition of the fluid conveyed in the tubes
(chamber 2), is shown in the diagram below shown in figure 1.
LEGEND
The highlighted part is the HEAT EXCHANGER.
Safety essential EXCHANGER components are:
Safety valve,
The following devices are also recommended:
Maximum temperature thermostat,
Pressure gauge,
Flow switch and/or differential switch on the cooling circuit.
All these components are part of the system; they must be calculated and chosen by the assembler
(customer) and are not an integral part of this project as on board accessories. The appliance has been
designed to function as a bidirectional heat exchanger during the transfer of heat from the fluid passing
through chamber 2 (inside the tubes) to the walls of the tubes themselves and therefore from the walls
of the tubes to the fluid contained in the shell (chamber 1 ), or in an exactly specular operating way
(transfer of heat from the fluid of the shell to the fluid present in the tubes). The fluid obviously raises
its temperature and is thus channelled to the various users. Users are not part of the project and are
known only to the assembler. Obviously, the system is designed so that there is no direct contact / mixing
between the two fluids contained in the two chambers, precisely in order not to generate mutual
contamination which could cause a downgrading of the system's performance and lead to an early
replacement.
