Maintenance
(1) Checking for leak tightness
1. Moisten the inside of the face seal with water and fit the facepiece to the test
head.
2. If necessary, inflate test head until the face seal fits snugly all round.
3. Seal the equipment connector with the adapter.
4. If necessary, moisten the exhalation valve.
5. Generate a negative pressure of 10 mbar.
The facepiece is considered leak-tight if the pressure change after 1 minute is
no more than 1 mbar. If not, perform (2).
(2) Test with sealed exhalation valve
1. Remove exhalation valve disk.
2. Insert exhalation valve plug and secure with spring holder.
3. Generate a negative pressure of 10 mbar.
4. If the pressure change is less than 1 mbar after 1 minute: remove exhalation
valve plug, insert new valve disk, and repeat the leak test. If not, perform (3).
(3) Leak test under water
1. Immerse the test head together with the facepiece in water.
2. Generate a positive pressure of approx. 10 mbar and rotate the test head
slowly underwater.
Escaping air bubbles indicate the source of any leak(s).
3. Take the test head with the facepiece out of the water, repair the facepiece,
or replace leaking components.
4. Remove the exhalation valve plug and fit the exhalation valve.
5. Repeat the leak test (1).
Checking the opening pressure of the exhalation valve
If using the Quaestor test unit, the opening pressure must at least be 4.2 mbar
with a constant flow of 10 liters/minute through the facepiece. If not, replace
spring and repeat test. If using test equipment that does not permit this constant
flow rate (e.g. Testor) the minimum opening pressure must be 4.5 mbar.
After testing
1. Press button and remove adapter.
2. Remove the facepiece from the test head and dry it if necessary.

top and bottom halves apart.
3. Remove the support plate if necessary (see "Replacing the equipment
connector", page 98).
4. Detach the old visor from the rubber frame.
5. Insert the new visor first in the upper and then in the lower half of the rubber
frame.
The midposition markers on the visor must line up with the seam on the
facepiece body.
6. Pull the rubber frame to the right and left over the rim of the visor.
7. Moisten the outside of the rubber frame and the inside of the visor frame
with soapy water.
8. Press on the visor frame, top half first, then lower half.
9. Insert the support plate if necessary.
10. Facepieces with metal visor frame:
Screw the screws into the hex nuts and tighten them until the distance
between the clamping pins is 3 to 0.5 mm.
11. Facepieces with plastic visor frame:
Insert the screws and tighten them until there is no gap remaining between
the upper and the lower visor frame.
5.5.2
Replacing the equipment connector
