Use
4.1
Before use
● Before occupational use of this respirator, a written respiratory protection
program must be implemented meeting all the local government
requirements. In the United States, employers must comply with
OSHA 29 CFR 1910.134 which includes medical evaluation, training, and fit
testing.
● Strictly follow OSHA 1910.134 and other valid national regulations for the
use of respiratory equipment.
● Before using the facepiece for the first time, perform a leak test (see
"Leak tests", page 97).
4.1.1
Donning the facepiece
WARNING
Beards and sideburns in the sealing range of the facepiece will cause leaks!
Therefore the facepiece should not be used by anyone with facial hair of this
sort. Spectacle frames in the sealing range also cause leaks. Use facepiece
spectacles.
WARNING
Never use a facepiece that leaks!
If the facepiece leaks, there is a risk of toxication!
NOTICE
At very low temperatures, the user can reduce facepiece fogging by either
inhaling or holding his breath when donning the facepiece.
1. Loosen the facepiece from the standby position.
2. Pull the head harness apart then put your chin into chin cup of the facepiece
body (see Foldout page, Figure C).
3. Pull the head harness over your head and draw backwards.

4. Adjust the facepiece.
5. Pull the straps until evenly tightened; first the neck straps (see Foldout
page, Figure D, 1), then the temple straps (see Foldout page, Figure D, 2),
finally the front strap (see Foldout page, Figure D, 3).
6. Don the helmet and make sure that it fits correctly.
7. Press the button and insert the lung demand valve into the equipment
connector.
8. Release the button and check whether the lung demand valve is properly
engaged.
9. Close the plug nipple with your thumb and inhale until negative pressure is
created. Hold your breath for a moment.
The negative pressure should be maintained. If not, retighten the straps. No
air from the outside must enter the facepiece.
10. Repeat leak test twice.
11. Checking the exhalation valve: Seal the plug nipple and exhale forcefully.
The exhaled air must be able to escape without obstruction. If not, replace
the exhalation valve.
12. Connect either positive pressure compressed air breathing apparatus or
positive pressure airline equipment.
13. Check whether the lung demand valve is securely fitted by turning it and
pulling on it forcefully.
Have the tightness and correct connection checked by a second person.
4.2
During use
4.2.1
Low temperatures
Use "klar-pilot" anti-fog agent to prevent fogging of the visor.
4.2.2
High temperatures/Thermal cycling
Leave the danger zone immediately if there are any signs of damage, e.g.,
bubbles in the visor.
The coating may dissolve in some places on visors marked with PC/CC. The
facepiece is fully serviceable until the end of the operation. Replace visor after
use.
