3. INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS
VEHICLE
•
The rear underrun bar must only be fitted on vehicles that meet one of the following criteria:
– *M, N1, N2, N3 or O1, O2, O3, O4 category vehicles.
- Maximum total weight of vehicle: any GCWR.
– The minimum stiffness of a side rail + sub-frame and the elastic limit of the material must obey one of the
following formulae according to the total vehicle weight GCWR (tonnes):
• 0 < GCWR < 21.6 t: I/v (mm³). Re (MPa) ≥ 7583.33 x GCWR (t).
• GCWR≥ 21.6 t: I/v (mm³). Re (MPa) ≥ 163,800 N.m
The underrun bar must be installed in accordance with the manufacturer's bodywork fitting instructions and
regulation R58-03.
•
The position of the underrun bar must ensure compliance with the ground clearance of the lower section of
the underrun bar profile (measured with the vehicle at its unladen kerb weight) as follows:
For N2>8t, N3, O3 and O4 category vehicles:
-
o
Hydraulic, hydropneumatic suspension: G≤ 450 mm (see Fig. 1) or departure angle not
exceeding 8° with a maximum of 550 mm.
o
Other suspensions: G≤ 500 mm (see Fig. 1) or departure angle not exceeding 8° with a maximum
of 550 mm.
For M, N1, N2 ≤ 8t, O1 and O2 category vehicles: P= 400 mm minus the deflection (see Table 2).
-
The position of the underrun bar must ensure compliance with the dimension G ≤ 550 (see Fig. 1).
For G * type vehicles:
-
o Above conditions or departure angle not exceeding 10° for M1G and N1G categories.
o Above conditions or departure angle not exceeding 20° for M2G and N2G categories.
o Above conditions or departure angle not exceeding 25° for M3G and N3G categories.
•
The position of the underrun bar must ensure compliance with the P max. dimension as follows:
Vehicle category
Maximum laden deflection
during test
O1, O2, M, N1, N2≤8t
(P max.)
N2>8t, N3, O3 and O4 with a
lifting platform or tipping
trailer (P Max)
O3 and O4 (P Max)
•
The location of the coupling device is defined by standard ISO 11407, the truck falls into one of 3 defined
classes: 1400, 1600 or 1900, which is the distance between the hitch shaft and the rear of the truck with a
tolerance of +0 to -100 mm.
•
The height of the drawbar above ground is 380 ± 25 mm.
•
The tractor unit must be designed so that none of the tractor unit's and trailer's components, except for those
that form the joint, can come into contact as long as the trailer's tilt angle in relation to the vehicle does not
exceed 6°.
•
In manoeuvring conditions, the rotation angle must be able to reach 90° on each side of the longitudinal plane
of the tractor unit, and the tilt angle must be able to vary between 0° and 6° (see fig. 1).
* See Directive 2007/46/EEC for the definition of vehicle categories.
