7. Cable and line entries, stopping plugs
Only EC test examinated cable glands and plugs acc. EN/IEC 60079-0 appen-
dix B are allowed to be used within an Ex junction box. Only fixed installed
cables are allowed to be used. The operator must ensure an appropriate
strain relief.
In areas with inflammable dust only Ex-examined glands and plugs with a
minimum ingress protection of IP 6X can be used. The minimum distance of
the drillings is to be kept in accordance with the table „drilling spaces for
cable glands".
When cable and wire inlets with a IP protection class lower than applicable
for the device (see device type plate) are used, the IP protection class of the
entire device is reduced.
Unused inlet openings should be sealed with a certified sealing plug to esta-
blish the minimum protection class.
The operating temperature range must be selected appropriately taking self-
heating into account.
The boxes is to be checked on delivery in accordance with the valid Ex
guidelines. According to EN/IEC 60079-17 you, as the individual responsible
for installing and maintenance, are under obligation to check the cable
glands and sealing plugs for a tight fit before first starting the unit. You are
also obliged to ensure their tightness according to the information provided
by the cable gland manufacturer.
The conditions of EN/IEC 60079-14 must also be taken into consideration.
