4. OPERATING PRINCIPLES

4.1 EFFECTS OF THE HIGH-FREQUENCY CURRENT

BACK4 generates high-frequency sinusoidal current with monopolar and multipolar modes. It can be used with
one or two active accessories and one neutral accessory. When the two/three accessories are in contact with the
patient, the electrical circuit closes and current is delivered.
The effects of radiofrequency (RF) currents are related to their frequency and intensity.
All living tissues have some degree of resistance or impedance to the flow of current. Scientific studies have shown
that the frequency band between 300-1000kHz induces an increase in intra- and extracellular exchanges.
BACK4 has two main modes: CET (Capacitive Electrical Transfer) and RET (Resistive Electrical Transfer). CET
mode uses less energy than the RET mode (the conversion of electrical energy to increased internal temperature
is much higher in RET mode). CET mode has a more superficial action and targets soft tissues, while RET mode
has a deeper action and targets hard tissues. BACK4 also has a MIX mode (multipolar) for superficial action on
the epidermis and dermis. BACK4 can be used with an electrical stimulation for muscle stimulation and drainage.

4.2 MODES AND FUNCTIONS

Capacitive mode (CET)
Monopolar capacitive energy at 500kHz (Soft) or 300kHz (Deep). This mode is used for superficial action on soft
tissues with a high water density (muscles, fascia, viscera, lymphatic, vascular, etc.). You can also select Dynamic mode
which alternates the frequencies every 4 seconds.
Resistive mode (RET)
Monopolar resistive energy at 500kHz. The responses produced in resistive mode are concentrated in the deepest
and most resistant tissues, such as the joints and tendons. These areas of high density and low water content focus
more energy than in areas with greater water content. RET mode creates an internal thermal increase based on
the direct application of the current on the skin (because the electrode is not isolated). This action allows a greater
temperature increase to be achieved using less energy. To use RET at 300kHz, select Hi-TENS mode with RET mode.
