GENERAL DESCRIPTION
PILOT 141 is a DC output welding machine developed
especially for those applications where welding tasks
must be completed quickly and easily. Using the latest
inverter technology, MIGATRONIC has designed and
produced a compact machine weighing less than 10
kg and able to use most types of coated electrodes at
currents up to 140 amps.
This combination of low weight and small size makes
the PILOT 141 extremely suitable for installation work,
field construction, emergency repairs, etc. With a
working frequency of more than 55 KHz the machine
does not make the acoustic noise or whine often
encountered with older design, slower-switching
inverters.
The very fast response time of the machine above 1
KHz, provides and maintains precise control of the
welding process, even if there are fluctuations in the
mains voltage supply.
The current control knob on the front panel of the
PILOT 141 allows infinite adjustment of current across
the full 10 - 140 amp range of the machine. This knob
is the only control on the machine and makes the
PILOT 141 extremely easy to use. PILOT 141 is a
single-phase welding machine based on Power

Designed for manual metal arc welding with coated
electrodes, the machine has the following standard
function:
Antifreeze:
During electrode welding, electrodes sometimes stick
to the workpiece. The machine registers the fact that
the electrode has stuck onto the workpiece, and will
reduce the welding current. This leads to the harden-
ing of the pool crater, and the electrode can then be
broken off. Welding can then be resumed in normal
fashion.

Mains connection
After the mains cable has been connected, the
machine is ready for use. Please note that all cable
connections must be made by authorised and qualified
staff.
Mains voltage
Up to 30 m of unrolled extension cable can be used
without reducing welding qualities.
Connection of welding cables
Connect the welding cables to the front of the
machine. Please note that the plug must be turned
through 45 degrees after insertion into the socket -
otherwise the plug can be damaged due to excessive
contact resistance.

Usage of the machine
When welding with PILOT 141 machines some
heating of various components of the machine takes
place and during breaks in welding these components
will cool down again.
It is not possible to overload the machine in normal
use, and there is no need for cooling down periods at
current settings up to 80 A when manual metal arc
(MMA) welding. When the machine is set for currents
above 80 amps, there will be a need for periods during
which the machine can cool down.
The length of these periods depends on the current

setting and the level of welding activity, and the
machine should not be switched off in the meantime. If
the periods for cooling down during use of the
machine are not sufficiently long, the overheating
protection will automatically stop the welding process
and the yellow LED will come on.
The yellow LED switches off when the machine has
cooled down sufficiently, and the machine is ready for
welding. Max. load can be seen in the Technical data.
60 % max. load when MMA welding means that a
cooling period of 4 minutes after welding for 6 minutes
is required at a current setting of 100 A; 10 minutes
between start of each welding period must be cal-
culated in connection with above table.
