Series SM
Some of the driving and pumping forces are very high, and
can lead to significant accident risks. There is also a risk
of death from electric shocks.
• For troubleshooting the entire system, be sure to observe the
corresponding instructions from the pump manufacturer.
• Do not make any changes or modifications to the motor
or its electrical connections. Otherwise the safety of the
motor can no longer be ensured.
• Perform work only when the motor is stopped! No work or
inspections are required which the motor is running.
• Work on the electrical system may only be carried out by qual-
ified specialists.
• Disconnect the system from voltage before carrying out
the work described here.
• Ensure that no-one can switch the voltage on again while
the system is still in operation.
• Never work on electrical systems when thunderstorms are
approaching or are present.
• Make sure that all safety and protective equipment is refit-
ted and reactivated completely immediately after conclu-
sion of the work.

Electrical faults

In the event of electrical faults, for example repeated cut-offs,
you should have the insulation resistance checked by a special-
ist.
• Disconnect the motor connection cable from the system and
first measure the motor and cable together. If the insulation
resistance is significantly less that the value specified in Sec-
tion 4.4.3, then you have to repeat the measurement individ-
ually for the cable and the motor. To do this, isolate the cable
about one metre upstream of the motor.
• Is it a problem with the cable? Then connect a new cable.
• Is it a problem with the motor? Then you have to have it re-
paired by the manufacturer or an authorised workshop. As an
alternative you can use a new motor.
• Is it a problem neither with the motor, nor with the cable?
Then you should have the electrical system checked.
8.3

Mechanical or hydraulic faults

In the event of mechanical or hydraulic faults, such as unusual
noises, faults in concentricity of the pump, or if the pump switch-
es on or off too frequently, then you should look for the cause
of the fault in the assembly.
• Please refer to the instructions from the pump manufacturer
to find the cause.
