4. GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
PETROL OPERATION
The starting of the vehicle is normally in petrol mode and the switch to gas is
automatic when the conditions of temperature and pressure necessary for the
proper functioning of the plant are reached. Depending on how the system is
configured, it is however possible to set gas-assisted start when the engine is
warm. The petrol tank must never be left completely empty, thus avoiding that
the fuel pump works without load. As an indication you should always keep
the gas in the tank for at least one quarter of its capacity.
FILLING THE LPG TANK
The tank is fitted with a valve which, when filling with LPG, automatically
limits filling to 80% of the available volume, to prevent overpressure. For
example, a tank with a 60-liter capacity will be able to contain a maximum
of 48 liters of LPG. Both mechanical and electronic level gauges are adjusted
to indicate full at 80%.
FILLING THE CNG TANK
CNG gas is filled into the car tank at a pressure that varies between 200
and 250 bar. Unlike petrol and LPG, CNG is sold in kg, therefore the
capacity of the tank depends on its volume and on filling pressure. For
example, a tank of 100 liters of internal volume filled to a pressure of 220
bar has a capacity of about 17 kg. Considering that one kg of CNG is
equivalent to about 1.7 litres, we have a petrol capacity of about 29 litres.
LPG AND CNG CONSUMPTION
The power that can be obtained from an engine depends on the heating
value at stoichiometric mix of the air/fuel mixture used, i.e. the energy that
can be developed by a liter of air/ petrol, air/LPG or air/CNG mixture.
The heating value at stoichiometric mix can therefore be associated with
the ability of a fuel to develop power. LPG and CNG have a slightly lower
heating value at stoichiometric mix than petrol and therefore the use of LPG
or CNG as fuels entails a drop in the developable power and hence an
increase of about 10-12% in consumption with the same performance.
TEMPORARY REMOVAL AND RESTORATION OF THE
COMPONENTS
If it is necessary to remove or move parts of the gas system to carry out
mechanical repairs or bodywork, these operations must be carried out by
an authorized Lovato Gas installer to ensure that the devices do not get
damaged and guarantee that the system is put back correctly.
IN CASE OF ACCIDENT
If an accident occurs, the Lovato system detects that the engine has stopped
and blocks the flow of gas from the tank. After an accident, contact an
Authorized Lovato Gas Installer to check the system.
