Camshaft Locking Pin 3788-23
• Turn the engine until the camshaft sprocket
timing holes align (approximately the 2o'clock
position) and insert Locking Pin 378823.

• Check that the crank keyway is in the
11o'clock position and insert Locking Pin
378821 to confirm correct crankshaft position.
Maintenance work on engines must be carried out only by experienced mechanics.

Additional application: Locking Pin
378821 is also used to check the fuel
pump alignment via holes in two of the
spokes of the pump sprocket. If there is not a da
tum hole in the pump bracket, behind the sprock
et, to accept the Locking Pin, then align the pump
sprocket position by positioning the holes in the
spokes vertically – one above the other.
• When fitting new timing belt, apply tension by
turning the tensioner roller anticlockwise until
the pointer is positioned between the sides of
the window. Refit removed parts and remove
the Locking Pins. Carefully rotate the crank
shaft 10 times by hand clockwise.
• Check engine timing by ensuring Pins 378821
and 378823 can be inserted and fuel pump
sprocket is correctly aligned. Recheck the
tensioner pointer is positioned within the win
dow.
• Insert Locking Pin 378822 into the flywheel to
fit the crankshaft pulley, using a new bolt.
