Crankshaft Locking
2588-1 Crankshaft Fixing Device
• The crankshaft is turned clockwise until tim
ing marks align. Then the crankshaft pulley
is locked in this position with the Crankshaft
Fixing Device 25881. Push the tool from the
front face of the crankshaft sprocket into the
sprocket teeth so that the pin of the Crankshaft
Fixing Device 25881 fits into the hole in the oil
seal housing.
ATTENTION:
The timing mark "arrow" on the Crank
shaft Fixing Device 25881 MUST
align with the mark on the crankshaft
sprocket. Temporarily remove the plastic knob off
the tool to improve visibility of the mark.
Maintenance work on engines must be carried out only by experienced mechanics.

Camshaft Timing / Locking
Alignment of camshaft timing marks
• The mark on the camshaft sprocket (located
behind the sprocket teeth ) must align with the
marking on the casting "3Z" (left) for 3 cylinder
engines or "4Z" (right) for 4 cylinder engines
with pumpnozzle injection (Pumpe Düse).
Lock the camshaft in this position by insert
ing the Locking Pin 25883 through the elon
gated slot on the left hand side of the camshaft
sprocket. Having located the locking tools in
position, the belt tension can be released and
the old timing belt can be removed.
• The 3 bolts of the sprocket can be slackened
allowing the timing belt sprocket to move.
