Pre-filter is not filled with
water
Air is being drawn in
Contamination of the
strainer baskets in the

Lid of the pre-filter is not
screwed on tightly
Suction line very high

Shut-off valve in suction
and pressure line closed
No self-priming pump
being used
Filter dirty
Shut-off valve in the unit
closed
Pipe too long / suction
side too high
Suction line leaks - air is
drawn in
Debris in the pump
Wrong grain size
Filter strainer in the filter

Defects
Solution

Fill to min. height of
inlet connection

Suction line has to
be free of leaks;
Water level up to
middle of skimmer
opening

Clean the strainer
baskets

Tighten

Install non-return
valve

Open the valve

Install a non-return
valve at the suction
side

Backwash

Open

Modify

Seal

Clean the impeller
and casing

Grain size has to
amount to 0.4 -
0.8 mm

Replace
