1. The TRACTEL blocmat™ TSD load arrester is

a safety device, designed to secure a load in the
event of a fall.
2. Never use a blocmat™ TSD load arrester to secure
people from falling.
3. Always check that the load weight does not exceed
the Working Load Limit of the blocmat™ TSD.
4. Before using the load arrester, it is essential
that users read this manual and comply with its
instructions, in order to ensure safe and effective
operation. This manual must be kept and made
available to all users. Additional copies can be
supplied on request.
5. Before using this load arrester, it is essential that
users are trained in its use.
6. Never use a blocmat™ TSD which is not in
apparent good order. It is recommended that a

1. Function et description

The blocmat™ TSD automatic load arrester instantly
stops a load in the event of a fall (see fig. 1, page A).
The blocmat™ TSD is attached to a support structure,
the load moving up and down on a vertical axis.
The load is connected to the blocmat™ TSD by a
wire rope, whose length is adjusted automatically by
a retracting spring which activates a reel on which the
rope is wound.
In the event of a fall, the drum is locked by a pawl (10 m
version) or two pawls (18 m version) which engage in a
ratchet wheel under the action of the centrifugal force
caused by the acceleration of the mass attached to
the Hook. The drop load is less than 650 daN even if
visual check is carried out before each use. Return
any blocmat™ TSD which is damaged in any way to
TRACTEL

consequence of dismantling a blocmat™ TSD
or any modification not made under its control, in
particular in the event of the replacement of original
parts with parts from another source.
8. The equipment model described in this manual
should only be used to arrest loads that might fall.
9. If a blocmat™ TSD has stopped a load fall it must
not be re-used. It must be immediatly inspected by
a competent person from TRACTEL
approved repairers.

('Top System Dissipator').
As the wire rope between the load and the
blocmat™ TSD is kept taut, the load only falls a short
distance, and the fall is controlled.
