Disposable Collection System: Change-over valve (chapter D)

Safety related tip
When using change-over valve instead of serial connection, suction is switched from
one jar to the other manually. No reduction in flow rate is to be expected.
1. Insert a jar including a liner to each side of the change-over valve.
2. Connect the left suction tubing from the change-over valve to the suction port of the left jar.
Do the same for the right side.
3. a. Take suction tubing from the vacuum source and pull from below the jar holder through
the hole closest to the change-over valve and connect it to the middle port of the change-
over valve.
b. Connect the opposite end of this suction tubing to vacuum source. We recommend using
the Medela Dominant Flex suction pump.
4. If necessary, insert coloured angle piece to the patient port(s). Connect desired patient tubing
to the left and the right jars.

Safety related tip
When using serial connection, the flow rate of the suction source is reduced. Make sure
the flow rate is still adequate for your desired application.
1. Insert 4 jars including liners to each side of the change-over valve.
2. Cut off 10cm of the tubing of the serial vacuum connection.
3. Insert two serial suction connections to the jars next to the change-over-valve with its open
tubing facing the upper jars.
4. Remove the two coupling pieces of both the change-over-valve tubing and plug these cou-
pling pieces into the suction port of the two upper jars.
5. a. Connect the suction tubing from the change-over-valve with the Y piece in the vacuum
port of the neighboring jars.
b. Also connect the serial vacuum connections from the middle jars to the upper jars.
6. a. Take the suction tubing from the vacuum source and pull from below the jar holder
through the hole closest to the change-over valve.
b. Connect the suction tubing to the middle port of the change-over-valve
Connect the suction tubing to suction source. As a suction source we recommend using
the Medela Dominant Flex suction pump.
