TROUBLESHOOTING

Troubleshooting the sauna heater

Table 1: Troubleshooting the sauna heater
Symptom
The heater is not working.
One of the heater elements in the sto-
ne compartment does not heat up.
The heater is on but does not create
steam, water does not boil.
Fuses/earth fault breaker in the distri-
bution board trip as soon as the heater
is switched on, or during operation.
Temperature cut-out devices
The heater has several temperature cut-out devices:
• Heater - The temperature cut-out in the heater is designed to pro-
tect the components, tubular elements and woodwork in the sauna
from overheating. On the front of the heater, under a black cover
plug to the right of the thermostat dial, is a red reset button which
must be pressed in (see Figure 8). If the cut-out has activated, the
button will feel stiff and will click when reset. If the cut-out has not
activated and after resetting, the button will feel springy.
• Water reservoir - The temperature cut-out in the reservoir is
designed to protect the heater element from boiling dry. There
is a red reset button under the heater which must be pressed in
(see Figure 8). If the cut-out has activated, the button will feel stiff
and will click when reset. If the cut-out has not activated and after
resetting, the button will feel springy.
Information!
When the overheating cut-out activates, always check the cause
of the problem. The service life of the tubular elements can be
adversely effected by each overheating. Recurrent overheating
can be an indication of the following: faulty ventilation, excessive
room volume (heater is inadequate for room, e.g. if there are too
many hard materials such as tiles or glass), internal heater fault,
water reservoir not properly cleaned.
Possible cause
1.
Thermostat is not set high enough.
Timer is not in the range corresponding
2.
to ON.
3.
Fuses in the distribution board have
blown/tripped.
The internal temperature cut-out has
4.
been activated. For more information,
see the Temperature cut-out section.
Is the water reservoir in operation? Only
1.
one heater element can operate at the
same time as the water reservoir, so as to
prevent excessive current being drawn.
If the room is large or contains very hard ma-
2.
terials such as tiles or glass, it will take a long
time to reach the maximum temperature and
a safety thermostat will switch off one of the
heaters for a while to prevent overheating.
1.
Steam function has not been selected.
2.
Not enough water in the reservoir.
3.
Water reservoir temperature cut-out has
been activated.
4.
Heater element in reservoir is faulty.
1.
The heater has not been used for a long
period, causing an insulation fault in the
tubular elements.
There is a short circuit at the heater GND,
2.
which could be caused by a faulty heater
element.
Heater has had too much water poured on it.
3.
Figure 8: Resetting the temperature cut-out devices
Remedy
1.
Raise the thermostat setting.
Raise the time setting, but not higher
2.
than 3 hours.
3.
Replace/reset the fuses in the distribu-
tion board that have blown/tripped.
Check and fix the cause of the temperatu-
4.
re cut-out activation. Reset the temperatu-
re cut-out. There is a red button underne-
ath a cover plug on the front of the heater,
which can be pressed in (see Figure 8).
Normal, front heating element is
1.
heated
2.
Normal, rear heating element is heated
1.
Turn the dial for the steam function
(see Figure 5).
2.
Add water until the black button rises up.
Reset temperature cut-out. For more in-
3.
formation, see the Temperature cut-out
section (see Figure 8). If steam function
does not work after resetting, heater
element in reservoir may be damaged.
4.
An authorised electrician is required to
find the fault.
Do not use the heater. Switch the heater
off and disconnect the heater fuses on the
main switchboard. An authorised electrician
is required to find the fault.
