1. Important safety information
and instructions
1. Before using the equipment covered by this manual, it is
absolutely necessary, in order to ensure safe, efficient use of
the equipment, that the operator and/or rescuer fully read and
understand the information contained in this manual. This
manual must be kept available to all operator and rescue
personnel. Additional copies can be provided on request.
2. For the safety of the rescuer and the person to be evacuated,
should the equipment covered by this manual be re-sold
outside the initial country for which it was intended, the
reseller must provide this manual, translated into the
language of the country in which the equipment will be used.
3. If the equipment covered by this manual is to be entrusted to
a salaried or related worker, all applicable work regulations
must be observed.
4. Rescue operations must only be performed by personnel
properly trained and qualified for rescue operations at heights.
5. Any change to the equipment or any addition of a component
to the equipment is strictly subject to the prior written approval
of the Tractel
®
group.
6. The equipment must be transported and stored in its original
package.
7. Contact the Tractel
®
Group prior to any use of the equipment
in an environment having a specific risk, in particular, and not
limited to, corrosive environments or environments having a
chemical risk, explosive environments, environments having
an electrical risk, radiation risk, etc.
8. The equipment covered by this manual is designed for use on
a worksite in open air at temperatures of between -40°C and
+60°C.
9. The equipment should not be exposed to any sharp edges,
abrasive surfaces, chemical products, or any source of heat.
10. The equipment covered by this manual must not be used for
any other application other than the rescue application for
which it is designed. It should not be used, for example, for
bungee cord jumping, or as a fall protection system for work
at heights.
This equipment is not a fall arrest device.
11. Before using the equipment, make sure the evacuation path
is free of any obstacles.

12. It is recommended to perform an initial suspension test from
a limited height in a safe location to make sure that the
rescue harness is properly adjusted and provides an
acceptable level of comfort for the intended use.
13. The rescue harness is designed to evacuate persons
weighing between 30 and 150 kg.
14. A rescue harness must only be used to evacuate one person
at a time.
15. The evacuation system anchor point must be located above
the user's waist and must comply with the requirements of
standard EN 795 or have a strength designed to withstand
10 kN.
16. The rescue harness fastening point, used for the evacuation
operation, must be located above the user's waist (center of
®
gravity). To ensure this, use the various adjustment points
provided on the rescue harness (see fig. 5).
17. Visually inspect the harness before each use. This is
mandatory.
18. Before using this equipment, make sure to check the
condition of the components forming the complete rescue
system: anchor point, rescue harness, locking of buckles,
fastening points and connectors.
19. A rescue harness which has not been inspected over the
past 12 months should not be used. It should be safely
removed to prevent any use until authorisation in writing by
a qualified person.
20. Should you have any doubts concerning the safety of the
equipment or if the equipment is not visibly in good condition,
it should be removed and quarantined to prevent any use
before Tractel
®
or a trained, qualified person has inspected
the harness and authorized use of the harness in writing.

2. Definitions and pictograms

2.1. Definitions
Connector:
Element or connecting component of a fall arrest system.
PPE:
Personal protective equipment.
Fall arrest harness:
Harness securing a man's body for the purpose of stopping a
fall.
A fall arrest harness is a component of a fall arrest system. A fall
arrest harness can be formed by straps, buckles and other
elements, arranged and adjusted appropriately on the user's
body to retain the user during and following a fall.
Rescue harness
Device securing a man's body, designed for rescue operations,
formed by straps, accessories, buckles and other elements
designed and assembled to securely maintain a person's body in
an appropriate position during a rescue operation.
Lanyard:
Element or connecting component of a fall arrest system. A
lanyard can come in the form of a cord or of a strap.
Operator:
Person or department in charge of using equipment, for whom it
is intended.
Fastening point:
On the rescue harnesses, the fastening points are loops made
of webbing, designed to receive a rescue PPE or a lift-out rescue
system.
