Stud Finder Detection Process

The
should not be relied on
exclusively to locate items below the
scanned surface. Use other information
sources to help locate items before penetrat-
ing the surface. Such additional sources in-
clude construction plans, visible points of
entry of pipes and wiring into walls, such as
in a basement, and standard 16" and 24"
stud spacing practices.
1. Rotate and hold the tool sideways and
position the tool against the surface
to be inspected with the Stud Finder's
Sensor Area 9 touching the wall. The
pressure on the Stud Finder's Switch 10
will turn on the stud finder.
2. Continue holding the Stud Finder's Sen-
sor Area 9 against the wall and pause to
calibrate. The Yellow Pause Indicator 14
will appear.
3. Continue holding the Stud Finder's
Sensor Area 9 against the wall without

movement until the Green Scan Slowly
Indicator 13 appears. The green arrows
indicate readiness to measure.
4. Hold the tool by the base of the Handle

. A pinch grip helps keep pressure
on the Stud Finder's Switch 10 while
also keeping hands out of the Stud
Finder's Sensor Area 9. Do not change
your grip during the measurement, and,
in particular, do not touch the Stud
Finder's Sensor Area 9 or release pres-
sure on the Switch 10.
5. Always move the tool in a straight line
over the surface
, applying light pres-
sure, without lifting it off or changing
the pressure. Slowly slide the tool in
the direction of the arrows of the Green
Scan Slowly Indicator 13.
The tool should primarily be moved
across the object you are searching for.
If you do not know how the object is
aligned in the wall, perform a second
measurement perpendicular to the first.
6. When the tool detects the edge of the
stud, the Red Arrow 12 illuminates.
