The detector alone should not be relied on exclusively to locate items
below the scanned surface. Use other information sources to help locate
items before penetrating the surface. Such additional sources include construction plans,
visible points of entry of pipes and wiring into walls, such as in a basement, and standard
16" and 24" stud spacing practices.
Operating the Edge-Finding Stud
Finder
(Fig. 23)
Optimal operation of the detector is pos-
sible only when the operating instructions
and information are read completely, and
the instructions contained therein are
strictly followed.
Remove all bits from tool before starting
stud finding function.
• Allow the stud finder to adjust to the
ambient temperature before switching
it on. The accuracy of the stud finder
may be reduced if experiencing large
temperature variations.
• Avoid hard knocks to the tool or drop-
ping it. After severe external influences
and in the event of abnormalities in the
functionality, contact Dremel Customer
Service at 1-800-437-3635.

• Hold the tool by the Handle (Insulated
Gripping Surface) 2 only, so as not to
influence the detection.
• Do not attach any stickers or labels
to the Stud Finder's Sensor Area 9 or
Switch 10. Metal labels, in particular,
will affect measuring results.
• When taking measurements, avoid get-
ting close to devices that emit strong
electric, magnetic, or electromagnetic
fields, such as mobile telephones, lap-
tops, or tablets. If possible, deactivate
all tools whose radiation could interfere
with the measurement and switch off
the corresponding functions or tools.
Recommendations for Proper
Scanning
• Avoid wearing loose jewelry or gloves
that may approach the back side of the
detector. This may interfere with detec-
tion.
• Move the detector uniformly over the
surface without lifting it off or changing
the applied pressure.
• Make sure that your fingers of the hand
holding the detector do not touch the
surface being scanned, which could
interfere with the tool's ability to effec-
tively detect items below the surface.
• Do not touch the surface being scanned
with either of your hands or any other
part of your body, because the moisture
may affect the scanning.
• Always slide the tool SLOWLY to achieve
maximum sensitivity.
Note: Objects in wall, such as wiring and
pipes, may be detected as studs if in close
proximity to the drywall.
