4 Safety Precautions
■ The charger is not protected against all ambi‐
ent conditions. If the charger is exposed to
certain ambient conditions, it may catch fire or
explode. This may result in serious injury to
people and damage to property.
► Operate the charger in an enclosed, dry
room.
► Do not operate the charger in a flammable
environment or in an explosive environ‐
ment.
► Do not operate the charger on a readily
combustible surface.
► Do not use and store the charger outside of
the specified temperature limits,
■ People may trip over the connecting cable.
People may be injured and the charger may
be damaged.
► Lay the connecting cable flat on the floor.

Safe Condition
4.6.1
Pruning shears
The pruning shears are in a safe condition if the
following conditions are met:
– The pruning shears are not damaged.
– The pruning shears are clean and dry.
– The controls function properly and have not
been modified.
– Original STIHL accessories designed for these
pruning shears are installed.
– The accessories are correctly installed.
WARNING
■ If not in safe condition, components may no
longer operate correctly, and safety devices
may be rendered ineffective. Persons may be
seriously injured or killed.
► Work only with undamaged pruning shears.
► If the pruning shears are dirty or wet: Clean
the pruning shears and allow them to dry.
► Do not modify the pruning shears.
► If the controls do not function properly: Do
not use your pruning shears.
► Install original STIHL accessories designed
for these pruning shears.
► Install accessories as described in this User
Manual or in the User Manual for the acces‐
sories.
► Never insert objects into the openings of
the pruning shears.
► Replace worn or damaged warning signs.
► If you are unsure: Consult a STIHL author‐
ized dealer.

The cutting and anvil blades are in a safe condi‐
tion if the following conditions are met:
– The cutting and anvil blades are not damaged.
– The cutting and anvil blades are not warped.
– The cutting and anvil blades work smoothly.
– The cutting and anvil blades are lubricated.
– The cutting and anvil blades are correctly
installed.
– The cutting blade is properly sharpened.
– The cutting and anvil blades are free from
burrs.
WARNING

■ Parts of the cutting blade or anvil blade may
come off and be ejected at high speed if they
are in an unsafe condition. People may suffer
serious injuries as a result.
► Always work with undamaged, warp-free
and smoothly working cutting and anvil
blades.
► Correctly lubricate the cutting and anvil
blades.
► Install the cutting and anvil blades correctly.
► If the cutting blade is dull: Replace the cut‐
ting blade.
► If the cutting blade or anvil blade is dull or if
there is a burr on the cutting edge: Replace
the cutting blade and/or the anvil blade.
► If you are unsure: Contact a STIHL author‐
ized dealer.
4.6.3
The battery is in a safe condition if the following
points are observed:
– Battery is undamaged.
– The battery is clean and dry.
– Battery functions properly and has not been
modified.
WARNING
■ A battery that is not in a safe condition cannot
operate safely. Persons may be seriously
injured.
► Never work with a damaged battery.
► Never attempt to charge a damaged or
defective battery.
► If the battery is dirty: Clean the battery.
► If the battery is wet or damp: Allow the bat‐
tery to dry,
► Never attempt to modify the battery.
► Never insert objects in the battery's open‐
ings.
► Never bridge the battery's contacts with
metallic objects (short circuit).
► Do not open the battery.
