B. RS232C DATA INTERFACE
With the 011 Data Output Option, both data interfaces (RS232C and CL) are always in operation at the same time. Of course,
care should be taken to assure that the configuration of the data output -- baud rate, parity, transfer mode -- is the same for
both data interfaces.
In addition, the following conditions apply:
– Use of an external instrument that maintains the limiting and operating data as given in the RS232C EIA standard (see
also below).
– The balance and the external instrument must be connected to the same power source.
B.1 Connection of non-METTLER TOLEDO instruments with
RS232C data interfacing
The 011 Data Output Option is set up as DCE (Data Communication
Equipment).
The configuration values on the instrument to be connected and
the 011 Data Output Option must be the same (see also below).
Connector and cable:
The data output has a 25-pole, D-subminiature socket (female)
with the following pin allocation (external view).
Pin 1:
protective Ground, cable shield connected to housing
and protective GND (it is possible to set it to "floating"
by removing the jumper inside)
Pin 3:
R x D, transmit (+/-)
Pin 5:
CTS, clear to send (marking)
Pin 6:
DSR, data set ready (marking)
Pin 7:
GND, signal ground
Pin 8:
DCD, carrier detect (marking)
Pin 20:
DTR, data terminal ready (is interpreted)
Depending on whether the instrument to be connected is a DTE
(video monitor, printer) or a DCE (personal-, desk-top- or
minicomputer), the connection cable must be wired accordingly.
Distortion-free transfer is assured for the following maximum
cable lengths:
up to 1200 Baud: 5 m
2400 Baud or more: 2 m
