Precautions
Environment
Avoid using the deck in the following cir-
cumstances:
eHigh temperature (such as heater, direct
sunlight).
e Extremely low temperature.
e Excessive humidity.
e Dusty atmosphere.
eWhere
power
line voltage fluctuation is
severe (the use of a voltage regulator may
be advisable).
Cassette Tape (Fig. 2)
Tape Selection:
For the automatic tape select function to
work properly, metal and chrome (cobalt)
formula tapes must have tape identification
holes.
Tape Handling:
Do not store tape in the following places:
On top of heaters, in direct sunlight or in
any: other high-temperature areas.
Near speakers, on TV sets or amplifiers or
near any strong magnetic fields.
e High-humidity areas or dirty, dusty areas.
Avoid dropping or subjecting the cassettes
to excessive shock.

If it is necessary to change the voltage
requirements
of the deck to match your
area, use the following procedure:
1, DISCONNECT POWER
LINE CORD.
2. Using a screwdriver,
turn the selector
until the desired voltage marking ap-
pears.
IMPORTANT (for U.K. Customers)
The wires in this mains lead are coloured
in accordance with the following code:
BLUE:
NEUTRAL
BROWN:
LIVE
As the colours of the wires in the mains
lead of this apparatus may not corres-
pond with the coloured markings identi-
fying the terminals in your plug, pro-
ceed as follows:
The wire which is coloured BLUE must
be connected to the terminal which is
marked with the letter N or coloured
BLACK.
The wire which is coloured
BROWN
must be connected
to the
terminal which. is marked with the letter
L or coloured RED.
In the U.K, this unit is sold without an
AC plug.

making connections.

@ POWER Switch
Press to switch the deck on. The display
window will be illuminated. Press again to
turn the deck off.
Note:
If you switch the power on again,
be sure to wait more than 2 seconds after
the power has been switched off.
@ EJECT Button
Press in the stop mode to open the cassette
holder.
© REMOTE
SENSOR (Remote
Control Infrared Signal Receptor)
This receives signals from the RC-306 in-
frared remote control unit. See page 12.

© NR SYSTEM Switch
For encoding the signal with the desired NR
system
during recording, and decoding it
during playback.
OFF: To release dbx, Dolby B or Dolby C
System.
DOB: For the Dolby
B noise reduction
system.
OOC: For the Dolby

@ PHONES (Headphones) Jack
@ Indicator Lamps
<1 /_D (Direction) Indicator:
Indicates
the
tape
direction.
When
the
power is turned ON, either
< or > blinks
then
lights continuously
when
the deck
enters the playback or record
mode. The
previously
selected tape direction will be
maintained even when power is switched off
RECORD Indicator:
Lights when the deck is in the recrod mode.
It blinks in thre recrod-muting mode.
PAUSE Indicator:
Lights when the deck is in the pause mode
for playback or recording.
@STOP Button
Press to stop the tape and release any other

mode.
© PAUSE Button
Press to temporarily stop tape travel during
recording or playback (the indicator lights).
Press again to restart tape travel (the in-
dicator goes off).
@ RECORD Button
Press this button to start recording. The
RECORD
indicator bf the corresponding
deck will light.
@® < (Reverse Play) Button
Press
<
to play the reverse side of the
cassette.
® > (Forward Play) Button
Press ® to play forward side of the cassette
(the side facing out).
® << / >> (Rewind/Fast-forward)
Button
This functions as rewind and fast forward
buttons, depending on the side of the cassete.
Ex: Press >> to rewind the reverse side.
@ TIMER Switch
PLAY: For timer playback
OFF:
Set to this position when not using
a timer.
REC:
For timer recording
(Refer to page 11.)
@® REVERSE MODE Switch
The setting of this switch determines how
the deck will operate during the play and
record modes when the tape reaches the end.
See chart "Tape Travel Depending on Set-
ting of REVERSE MODE Switch".
This also functions in the same way during
dubbing and various search modes. See box:
"Auto-Reverse Mechanism".
@ REC LEVEL Controls (L/R)
Use to adjust the recording
level of the
input signal. They have no effect during
dubbing.
@ CD CHECK Button
Press this button to check the input level
of the signal from a CD player. For details,
refer to page 11.
® COUNTER I/II Button
@® RESET Button
Use this button to reset the tape counter
to "0000" or to cancel the mode selected
and
currently
indicated
in the
display
window.
@ PROGRAM Button
