eration in its operating position). Two different
half-diamond jaws for the smaller component
diameters are cleared out of the same clamp
pair, half-diamonds for the largest diameters,
out of clamps with only one jaw. Fit the ap-
propriate clamps to the carriages by sliding the
hole in the bottom over the pin of the carriage
and turning the clamp gaps "around" the hex
key-head screws (see figure on the right for
reference). Then tighten both screws.
To complete the preparation, make a mark on
the pipe indicating the fusion depth, connect
the heating element to the power supply and
set its temperature selector, located next to
the handle, to the temperature required for
the welding operation at hand (see tables in
Sect. 5.4 for reference).

adapter rather than the handwheel moving both
carriages (refer to Sect. 2.3) are used during

welding to move the carriages, another prepara-
tion is to reconfigure the machine like this. If so,
interpret the expression, "using the handwheel
moving both carriages," in the following two sec-
tions as meaning, "using the cordless power tool
that moves the carriages through the appropriate
adapter."

Aligning the Components

Align the components on each other, respecting the previ-
ously marked fusion depth of the pipe as you do so.
1. Clamp the fitting (or, reducer, Tee, Y) into the diamond
between the clamps on the carriage on the fitting
side of the machine and secure it between the jaws by
turning the handwheel. Be sure that the fitting is flush
with the flange-like bead on the edge of the clamping
diamond towards the midline of the machine.
2. Secure the fitting in the jaws using the adjustable
bar (see figure in Sect. 5.1). The securing bar can be
released and fastened using its locking lever at the
support rod. To adjust the bar to the length of the
clamped component, it can be installed on the rod
either pointing towards, or pointing away from the
component to be jointed.
In the case of certain larger components, the
adjustable securing bar may be in the way when
it is in its regular position. For these cases (refer
