the whole set of parameters as an overview. In case there are errors,
it is possible either to enter all data once more by pressing the STOP/
RESET key, or to return to the previous step by pressing ñ and correct
the data one at a time.
If pipe codes were entered previously in the traceability data for the
joint, the machine automatically presents the welding parameters
contained in the pipe codes for confirmation.
As part of the input or confirmation of the component pa-
rameters, the welding system prompts the user for the kind
of jointing operation at hand: straight or sergmented-bend

pipe joint or production of a tee or crosspiece or a Y branch-
off. Select the appropriate kind of joint in the displayed
listing using the ñ and ò cursor keys and confirm your se-
lection by pressing the START/SET key. If you select a tee or
crosspiece, the system will also prompt you as to whether
welding operation 1 (the production of the 90 deg. elbows
required for both fittings) or welding operation 2 (the joint
of both 90 deg. elbows to each other or of the one elbow
with a length of straight pipe) is at hand (refer to Sect. 5.2
for more information).
If the wrong kind of jointing set-up or the wrong weld-
ing operation that is part of tee or crosspiece produc-
tion is selected here, the machine will compute incor-
rect welding pressures and the satisfactory quality of
the finished joint cannot be guaranteed.
To start welding, clamp the components into the master clamping as-
semblies. Use the appropriate reducers if the component size is smaller
than the master clamps.
Select the clamping assemblies appropriate for the welding operation
in hand: for straight and segmented-bend joints, for tee and crosspiece
production or for Y branch-off production. See Sect. 3.4 and 5.1 ff. for
detailed explanations of the differences between the various kinds
of clamping assemblies and of how they are installed and removed.

4.3.1 Clamping the Components and Facing their Butts

Prior to starting the facing proper, install in the base of the facing tool
the spacer bolts for 0 mm, 5 mm, 10 mm or 15 mm distance travelled
during facing (refer to the figure to the right) that match the facing
distance you intend for the joint at hand.
Then perform the facing process as follows:
1. Move the carriage apart using the mover lever.
2. Tilt down the facing tool between the two carriages, but do
not use the locking bolt yet. The facing tool then will sit in its
Position 1.
3. Use the carriage mover lever to close in the carriage on the other
one, so both abut against the spacer bolts. In this position, the
component butts can be properly adjusted to the facing disk
and can be levelled in the clamping tools.
4. Clamp the components to be jointed into the clamping assem-
blies.
5. Move the carriage apart using the mover lever, tilt up the facing
tool from in-between the component butts, and close in the car-
riage again using the mover lever. Reduce the pressure slightly
at the pressure release valve and check for any vertical or hori-
zontal alignment offset. If the components misalign, adjust them,
