2. Product introduction
2.1 Product description
This manual includes instructions for the
installation, operation, and maintenance of
Grundfos SE1 and SEV submersible sewage and
wastewater pumps with 1.5 - 15 hp (1.1 - 11 kW)
motors. The pumps are designed for pumping
domestic, municipal, and industrial sewage and
wastewater.
The following pump types are available:
• SE1 sewage pumps with S-tube
• SEV sewage pumps with SuperVortex free-
flow impeller.
The pumps can be installed on an auto-coupling
system or stand freely on the bottom of a tank.
Grundfos SE1 and SEV pumps are designed
®
with S-tube or SuperVortex impellers to ensure
reliable and optimum operation.
The manual also includes specific instructions for
the explosion-proof pumps.

2.2 Intended use
The SE1 and SEV pumps are designed for
transferring wastewater, process water and
unscreened raw sewage in heavy-duty municipal,
utility and industrial applications.
The pumps are available with S-tube
SuperVortex impellers allowing the free passage
of solids up to 3.9 inches (100 mm).
The pumps can be used in permanent, dry or
submerged installations on auto-coupling
systems. The pumps are also suitable for free-
standing installations or as portable pumps.

2.3 Pumped liquids
The standard cast iron versions are designed for
pumping the following liquids:
• large quantities of drainage, surface, and
stormwater
• domestic wastewater with discharge from
toilets
• wastewater with a high content of fibers
(SuperVortex impeller)
• industrial process water
• wastewater with gaseous sludge
• municipal and commercial sewage and
wastewater.

The stainless steel versions are suitable for
8 pumping the following liquids:
• industrial process water containing chemicals
• aggressive or corrosive drain water and
effluent
• wastewater containing abrasives
• seawater contaminated with wastewater.
