Truma S 55 T
Liquid gas heater
Installation
instructions
Installation and repair jobs
on the heater are only to
be carried out by an ex-
pert. Read and follow the in-
stallation instructions careful-
ly prior to starting any work!
Intended use
This heater is designed for in-
stallation in caravans, mobile
homes and other trailer vehi-
cles. It is not approved for in-
stallation in boats. Other
forms of use are also possible
after consultation with Truma.
Approval
Declaration of conformity:
The Truma S 55 T has been
approved by the DVGW and
complies with EC gas appli-
ance guideline 90/396/EEC
and associated EC guidelines.
The product ID No. for EU
countries is: CE-0085AU0098
This heating unit is approved
for installation in areas used
by people (in motor vehicles)
and also, with allowance for
different national regulations,
for use while driving.
Information regarding in-
stallation in Germany: This
heater is not to be installed
in motor vehicles (e.g. mo-
bile homes) which are to be
registered in Germany.
Truma heaters Trumatic C or
Trumatic E are intended for
motor vehicles. These have
been approved by the Ger-
man Federal Office for Motor
Vehicles.
For other countries the
special instructions must be
observed when installing the
heater in mobile homes (refer
to Section 12).
Installation of the heater in-
side buses or in vehicles for
the transportation of haz-
ardous goods is not permissi-
ble. For installation in special-
purpose vehicles, the regula-
4
tions applicable in each case
must be observed.
Regulations
Any alteration to the appli-
ance (including exhaust duct
and cowl) or the use of spare
parts and accessories which
are essential for the operation
of the heater and are not orig-
inal Truma parts, or the non-
observance of the installation
and operating instructions,
will lead to the cancelling of
the guarantee and exclusion
of liability claims. It also be-
comes illegal to use the appli-
ance, and in some countries
this even makes it illegal to
use the vehicle.
The operating pressure of
the 30 mbar gas supply (or
28 mbar butane/37 mbar
propane) must correspond
with the operating pressure
of the 30 mbar unit.
When installing the appliance
the appropriate technical and
administrative regulations of
the country in which the vehi-
cle is first registered must be
observed.
In Germany, for example, gas
appliances, cylinder mount-
ing, duct routing as well as
approval and leak tests must
comply with the DVGW form
G 607 for liquid gas systems
in vehicles.
Further details of regulations
in various countries of desti-
nation can be obtained from
our foreign representatives
(see Operating Instructions).
1
Choice of location
1. Always install the appli-
ance and its exhaust gas duct
in such a way that it is easily
accessible for service work at
all times and can be removed
and installed easily.
2. As a rule, the heater should
be installed inside the
wardrobe in the vehicle
(cut-out for installation 480 x
480 mm). For satisfactory op-
eration of the heater it is im-
portant that the heater base
and bottom edge of the in-
stallation box are assembled
on one level so that the con-
trol knob is flush with the
casing.
Attention: There should be
no heat-sensitive materials
under the appliance (cut
away carpeting). In the case
of PVC flooring, the heating
of the heater base may cause
some discoloration.
3. Exhaust ducts and cowls
must be installed in such a
way that exhaust gas cannot
find its way into the vehicle.
2
Combustion air
suction intake
Secure the floor template in
the installation cutout with
template nails. The arrows
(A) must point precisely to-
wards the front edge of the
cutout.
Use the installation template
to check the spatial condi-
tions for the combustion air
suction intake (aperture B,
Ø 75 mm).
Note: The outlet of the com-
bustion air suction intake ex-
tension piece (Fig. F: 1) must
not lie within the range of
spray from the wheels (fit
spray protection if necessary),
and must be left clear to
avoid the operation of the
heating system being ob-
structed by load-bearing
members, axles, cross-
pieces, etc.
Alternative combusti-
on air suction intake
If the aperture „B" comes up
against an obstruction (e.g.
load-bearing members, axles,
cross-pieces, etc.), then as an
alternative the air intake can
be effected through the aper-
ture „C" in the heating col-
umn, by using a „260 mm
suction pipe" (special acces-
sory, Art. No. 30080-45500,
Fig. C 1).
Fig. A + C 1: To convert the
existing combustion air suc-
tion pipe (2), dismantle it. To
do this, release the clip on the
heat exchanger with side cut-
ters and cut through the pipe.
Unscrew the angle support
elements (3) from the floor
plate, and remove the re-
mains of the pipe from the
heat exchanger. Open the
pre-stamped aperture „C" in
the floor plate by breaking it
out. Screw the new longer
suction pipe with angle sup-
port elements into the floor
plate, push it towards the
heat exchanger as far as the
stop, and then secure it with
a clip.
As a further option, the com-
bustion air suction intake can
be effected either through the
side or from the rear through
the installation box, by using
a flexible suction pipe (special
accessory Art. No. 30080-
45700, Fig. C 2).
Note: Place the suction sock-
et (6) in such a way that the
pipe length is sufficient and
the risk of damage will be
avoided when stowing ob-
jects in the vehicle (length
of suction pipe maximum
1 m).
1. Fig. C 2: Remove the pre-
fitted short suction pipe (2) as
described under „Alternative
combustion air suction in-
take".
2. Drill a hole with Ø 75 mm
for the suction socket (6).
3. Fit the edge protection pro-
file (5) in the corresponding
aperture on the installation
box.
4. Cut the flexible suction
pipe (4) to length, in such a
way that it runs downwards
from the socket on the heat
exchanger to the suction
socket (6).
5. Slide the suction pipe (4)
onto the socket on the heat
exchanger as far as the stop,
and secure it with the clip
provided.
6. Insert the suction socket
(6) into the floor opening, se-
cure it with four screws, and
seal from beneath with plastic
bodywork sealant - do not
use silicone.
Note: When laying the com-
bustion air suction intake
through the side or from the
rear through the installation
box, the standard suction in-
take extension (1) is not re-
quired.
3
Installing the
heating system
1. Using the installation tem-
plate, mark out the aperture B
or C for the suction exten-
sion, the securing point D for
the rear mounting angle ele-
ment, and the three front
points (E) for the securing
screws of the heating system.
If the gas infeed (Fig. A: 10) is
to be effected from beneath,
mark out the aperture (F) al-
so.
The dimensions must be
respected precisely.
2. Fig. A: Drill out an aper-
ture with Ø 75 mm and insert
the suction extension piece
(1) (if the suction extension is
being fitted directly beneath
the heating system, it should
not be secured). Seal from
beneath with plastic body-
work sealant - do not use
silicone.
