Fold the label the other way round and return it to the box. Any
notes you have made can then be read through the lid (Fig. 6).
USING THE MICROPHONE
a. The built-in microphone
The built-in microphone Q, can be used for at the microphone re-
cordings you wish to make. The microphone is of the omnidirec-
tional type and ensures an excellent recording quality. It is protect-
ed against sounds produced by the recorder itself. However, it is
advisable not to move the recorder unnecessarily while making
microphone recordings in order to avoid disturbing noises.
The built-in microphone is switched off by inserting a plug into the
socket marked blue©. This may be either the plug of a separate
microphone or the plug of the connecting cable.
b. Separate microphone
Should you prefer to use a separate microphone under certain cir-
cumstances, you may connect this to the socket marked blue ©.
When recording speech the best distance between mouth and
microphone is about 12" (30 cm). When recording songs or music,
the best distance must be found by making trial recordings as re-
quired.
For a separate microphone you may choose from the following
types: N 8212, N 8306, N 8307 and N 8210. The last type is provid-
ed with a remote control with which you can start and stop the
recorder from a distance (also see 'Remote control').
To extend the microphone lead use can be made of connection/
extension cable 4822 321 20211.
REMOTE CONTROL
By connecting a remote control to the socket marked red e.g.
remote start/stop control N 6718 or the remote control of micro-
phone N 8210, you can start or stop recording or playback from a
distance after setting the recorder accordingly. The remote control
then switches the battery voltage on and off.
If only the remote control facility of microphone N 8210 is to be
used, only connect the microphone plug with the red mark.
If fast winding or rewinding is necessary while using the remote
control facility, the normal keys on the recorder should be used for
this. The remote control should then be switched off.
After using the remote control facility always press the stop key Q
too.
