Preliminary note: All instructions in this manual refer
to a horizontal lifeline equipped with a flexible safety
anchor.
This manual provides information on installing the
travflex™ 2 lifeline.

1. Priority recommendations

1. The purpose of the travflex™ 2 lifeline is to control
serious risks of personnel falling. It is essential
for the safety of implementation and use of the
equipment and its efficiency, to read this manual
and comply strictly with its instructions before and
during installation and use of the lifeline.
2. This manual must be delivered to the person
responsible for management of the lifeline and
be kept available to any operator and installer.
Additional copies may be provided by Tractel
on request.
3. The use of the travflex™ 2 lifeline requires
associated and connected fall arrest personal
protection
equipment
compulsory equipment for each operator of at
least a full body fall arrest harness, linking and
connecting means and connection. The assembly
must compose a system to prevent or arrest any
fall from height in a manner consistent with relevant
regulations and safety standards.
4. If the lifeline is to be used to stop an operator fall, the
operator must be equipped with a fall arrest system
compliant with standard EN 363. The system must
ensure a fall arrest force of less than 6 kN. If the
lifeline is intended solely to limit the movement of
the operator outside the areas of risk of falling, the
operator can connect using a lanyard without fall
protection system in accordance with the EN 363
Standard, in this case the lifeline is known as
"restricted."
5. The information sign (see Chapter 7), the
implementation of which is mandatory, must be
kept clearly visible throughout the time the lifeline
is in use. Copies are available from Tractel
on request.
6. Each person that has to use the travflex™ 2 lifeline
must meet the physical fitness and professional
prerequisites for working at height. If in doubt,
consult a doctor or an occupational physician. They
must have received appropriate prior theoretical
training and practice in risk-free conditions, using

7. As each lifeline system pertains to a specific
case,
any
installation
lifeline must be preceded by a specific prior
to implementation study, carried out by a
qualified technician, including calculations, based
on specifications for the installation and this
manual. This study should take into account the
configuration of the implantation site and must
verify the appropriateness and mechanical strength
of the structure to which the travflex™ 2 lifeline will
be secured. This must be integrated into a usable
technical file by the installer.
8. The lifeline must be installed using appropriate
means, in safety conditions that fully control fall
hazards incurred by the installer, because of the
layout of the site.
9. The operation, maintenance and management
of the travflex™ 2 lifeline should be placed under
the responsibility of people who know the safety
regulations and standards for this type of equipment
and associated accessories. Each manager must
have read and understood this manual. Initial
commissioning must be checked by a competent
person, for compliance of the installation with the
prior study file and with this manual.
10. The person responsible for the use of the lifeline
should monitor it and ensure continuing compliance
of the lifeline and the PPE associated with it,
with security requirements and the rules and
standards applied in the field. They must ensure
the inter-compatibility of the associated PPE and
compatibility with the lifeline.
11. The life line and associated equipment should never
be used if they are not in obvious good condition. If
a defect is detected visually or if there is any doubt
whatsoever about the lifeline, it is imperative to
correct the defect before further use. Periodical
inspection of the travflex™ 2 lifeline and the
associated PPE must be organised at least once a
year, as described in Chapter 9, under the guidance
of a competent person who has received training
for this purpose. This training can be provided by
Tractel
SAS. This inspection must be conducted in
®
accordance with the European Regulation 2016/425
and as specified in this manual.
