Operation
The 'MARK' button can be pressed to record a significant
event . Pressing by 'MARK' will assign a flag into the datalog
for retrieval at a later stage . Bars in the display that are clear
rather than black indicate 'MARKed' readings in real time .
4 . An audible click will sound if the Gas-Tec measures a
sudden increase of hydrocarbon gas . The rate of clicking will
increase in proportion to the level of hydrocarbon detected .
Adjust the volume of the click using the 'VOL' button . This
option can be accessed by pressing the 'INFO' button as
shown above .
5 . Keep the Gas-Tec upright . The Gas-Tec will not detect gas if the unit is tilted more than 30 degrees
from the vertical . If this happens, an alarm will sound and a message will display . Restore the Gas-Tec
to an upright position . Gas detection will restart automatically, the beep will stop and the message will
clear .
If the Gas-Tec falls sideways, the flame may go out . Check for this by inspecting the flame icon in the
middle of the status bar at the top of the LCD display . If the flame icon is flashing, relight the flame by
pressing the igniter (see Section III .2) .

3.4 Shutting down

1 . Press the 'STOP' soft key (see 'Using the soft keys') .
2 . At the 'Do you want to stop readings?' message, press the
'YES' soft key .
3 . VERY IMPORTANT: When asked to 'Turn off gas' do this
by turning the valve on the gas bottle clockwise until tight .
4 . VERY IMPORTANT: Wait for ten minutes to allow the gas
to dissipate . The pump will continue to run until the gas
cylinder pressure drops to 150 psi .
5 . Switch off the Gas-Tec by holding down the 'ON/OFF'
switch for 3 seconds . Count down on LCD display will show
closing down .
6 . VERY IMPORTANT: Before leaving or recharging the Gas-Tec, CHECK that the gas valve has been
closed . It is very important to close the valve completely . If the valve is open, hydrogen leaks into the
enclosed space inside the instrument at 20 ml/minute . A build-up of gas could cause an explosion in
extreme cases .
