The instruction manual for this device consists of general and specific instructions,
both must be carefully read and understood before use. Attention! This leaflet
shows the specific instruction only.
SPECIFIC INSTRUCTIONS UP LOCK / UP ROLL / UP YOU GO.
This note contains the necessary information for a correct use of the following pro-
duct/s: Up Roll pulley; Up Lock pulley/rope clamp; Up You Go hauling system.
1) FIELD OF APPLICATION.
This product is a personal protective device (P.P.E.) against falls from height; it is
compliant with the Regulation (EU) 2016/425. EN 567:2013 - Mountaineering
equipment: rope clamps. EN 12278:2007 - Mountaineering equipment: pulleys.
To be used with: ø 8÷11 mm (core + sheath) static or low-stretch (EN 1891) or
dynamic (EN 892) ropes; ø 8 mm EN 564 accessory cords.
2) NOTIFIED BODIES. Refer to the legend in the general instructions (paragraph
9 / table D): M4; N1.
3) NOMENCLATURE (Fig. 2.1÷2.3). A) Top connection hole. B) Moving side
plate. C) Fixed side plate. D) Sheave. E) Spindle. F) Auxiliary connection hole.
G) Side-plate anti-rotation / blocking pin. H) Locking cam. I) Connector. L) Rope/
accessory cord. M) Protective sleeve. N) Label with marking.
3.1 - Main materials. Refer to the legend in the general instructions (paragraph
2.4): 2; 3 (device) / 7 (rope/accessory cord).
4) MARKING.
Numbers/letters without caption: refer to the legend in the general instructions
(paragraph 5).
4.1 - General (Fig. 2.3-2.4). Indications: 1; 4; 6; 7; 11; 12; 30) Pictogram indi-
cating the device maximum load (kN) while in pulley mode; 31) Correct opening
direction; 32) Range of admitted rope diameters; 33) Pictogram indicating the
device maximum load (kN) while in rope-clamp mode.
4.2 - Traceability (Fig. 2.3-2.4). Indications: T1; T3; T8.
5) CHECKS.
Further to the checks listed below, comply with what indicated in the general
instructions (paragraph 3).
Before each use, verify that: the locking cam - if any - moves without jamming be-
tween the pulley and the rope-clamp position; cam teeth are all present and show
no signs of wear; connectors in use work properly and symmetrically. During each
use: make sure that pulley and rope do not lean against, or rub, sharp edges and
abrasive materials (Fig. 6.3); make sure the rope is under tension to minimize falls;
make sure that there is no rope slack between anchor and user.
6) INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE - UP ROLL / UP LOCK. Up Roll is a double pulley,
EN 12278 certified. Up Lock is a double pulley with a locking/progress capture
function, EN 12278 and EN 567 certified. By combining two pulleys it is possi-
ble to set up hauling systems, even self-locking ones (Fig. 3). To set up a hauling
system you can only use EN 362 connectors, EN 567 rope clamps - if any - and
an EN 892 or EN 1891 rope with an 8 to 11 mm diameter (core + sheath) or
an EN 564 accessory cord with an 8 mm diameter.
6.1 - Up Lock operation. Up Lock can be used in pulley mode or in rope-clamp
mode. To go from one mode to the other, simply press the locking cam to engage
it (Fig. 4.1-4.2). In pulley mode the rope is free to slide in both directions; in
pulley/rope-clamp mode the rope can only slide in one direction while being
captured in the other.
7) UP YOU GO INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE. Up You Go is a self-locking pre-rigged
hauling system that can be set up to obtain a mechanical advantage of 4:1 or
5:1. The equipment is designed to lift and release a load or a person in trouble.
7.1 - Operation. 1) Secure the top connector to an anchor point compliant with
EN 795 (Fig. 3.1). 2) Extend the haul system, if necessary, to hook its bottom
connector to the EN 361 attachment point of the harness of the person to be res-
cued. 3) Move the cam of the Up Lock model into the pulley/rope-clamp position
(Fig. 4.1-4.2). 4) Pull the free-end side of the hauling rope to lift the victim to the
desired height.
7.2 - Disengaging the locking function. To disable the locking function and en-
gage the pulley mode you need to push the cam of Up Lock, always keeping
firmly in your hand the side of the rope that comes out of the device. To engage
again the locking function, press again the cam. Attention! Disabling the locking
function may cause the rescued operator or the load to fall, therefore it is essential
to firmly hold with the hand the side of the rope that comes out of the device.
7.3 - Fix Pro. Up You Go hauling systems incorporate Fix Pro positioning device
for connectors. They help connectors inserted in the pulleys maintain the correct
position. Attention! Fix Pro positioning devices are not PPE (Personal Protection
Equipment) and are not designed to hold the user's weight. The diagrams show
how to correctly install them (Fig. 8.1÷8.5). Attention! An installation error can
have very serious consequences, any installation method different from the one
shown is forbidden.
8) SYMBOLS. Refer to the legend in the general instructions (paragraph 16): F1;
F2; F3; F9.
