5.3.3
Cleaning the sediment bowl
Danger
1.
Close the fuel tap A-6/C-1).
2.
Remove the cover screws (C - 2) and nuts (C - 3).
3.
Remove the cover (C - 4).
4.
Remove the sediment bowl (C - 7).
5.
Clean the sediment bowl with a non-flammable solvent or solvent with a high flash point. Dry it fully.
6.
Check the sediment bowl cover (C - 5) and the gasket (C - 66). Replace them if they are damaged.
7.
Reinstall the sediment bowl.
8.
Turn the engine fuel tap clockwise.
9.
Wipe off any trace of fuel with a clean cloth and check for any leakage.
5.3.4
Clean-replace the air filter Quad clean
Never use petrol or flammable solvents to clean the air filter element (risk of fire or explosion when starting the
generating set).
Running the engine under normal running conditions with the cover designed for cold weather conditions can
cause damage.
CAUTION
Do not use compressed air on a paper element.
1.
Lower the cover lugs (D - 1) for the Quad clean air filter (A - 7) and remove the hooks from underneath the base
stops. Remove the cover (D - 2)
Pre-filter ( D - 4) :
2.
Remove the pre-filter from the paper element (D - 3).
3.
Replace the pre-filter or wash it in warm water and detergent. Rinse and leave to dry.
4.
Lightly oil the pre-filter with new engine oil. Remove any excess oil.
5.
Reposition the pre-filter on the paper element.
Paper element :
6.
Separate the pre-filter from the paper element. Service the pre-filter and replace the paper element.
7.
Fit the new paper element on the base. Fit the pre-filter on the paper filter element.
8.
Place the air filter cover in the normal running position (sun facing outwards) (D - 5) or the cold weather position
(snowflake facing outwards) (D - 6). Insert the hooks underneath the base stops. Lift the lugs to secure the cover.
5.3.5
Replace the spark plug
1.
Clean the spark plug well.
2.
Remove the spark plug cap (F - 1) then remove the spark plug (F - 2) using a spark plug wrench.
3.
Use a feeler gauge to adjust the electrode gap "X" to 0.76 mm (0.03 in).
4.
Refit the new spark plug in position and tighten it by hand to avoid damaging the threads.
5.
Use a spark plug wrench to tighten the spark plug to a torque of 27N.m (20 ft. lb.).
5.3.6
Cleaning the spark arrester
Undo the spark arrester mounting screw (E - 1).
1.
Remove the spark arrester (E - 2).
2.
3.
Using a wire brush, remove the carbon deposits from the spark arrester screen.
N.B. : The spark arrester must have no holes or cracks. Replace if necessary.
Refit the spark arrester on the exhaust silencer protector (E - 3) and retighten the spark arrester mounting screw.
4.
5.3.7
Cleaning the generating set
Clean the inside and outside of the generating set regularly.
-
For generating sets used outside: clean the generating set more frequently if it is installed in a densely wooded area or in a
corrosive atmosphere, or if it has been made dirty by dust or organic material (rotting leaves, moss, faecal matter, etc.).
-
For generating sets installed inside: always check that the installation is clean and in good condition.
Never wash the generating set with a high pressure cleaner.
Apply an anti-rust product to the damaged parts; any major scratches must be repaired (please contact your
nearest agent).
IMPORTANT
1.
Wash the generating set using a sponge soaked in water with a mild detergent added (e.g. car shampoo).*
2.
Use a sponge soaked in clean water to remove any traces of cleaning product.
3.
If necessary, use a brush or dry cloth to clean the engine and alternator air intakes.
4.
Check that the generating set is in a good general condition (no leaks, bolts, fittings, hoses tightened, etc.).
5.
Replace any faulty parts (only use original parts and consult an agent if necessary).
* When cleaning metal parts (base frame, side plates, etc.), a cleaning foam may be used and wiped off using a soft, absorbent
cloth. Stubborn stains may be removed using a suitable solvent (white spirit or equivalent) and wiped off using a soft, absorbent
cloth.
Do not smoke or cause sparks. Keep away from open flames. Check for the absence of
leaks, wipe off any trace of fuel and ensure that the vapours are dissipated before starting
the generating set.
