Connecting the Fitting
As soon as the fitting is connected, the "No Contact" message disap-
pears.
Connect the cable connectors to the fitting and check for proper contact.
If needed, use appropriate push-on adapters. The contact surfaces of
the cable connectors and the fitting have to be clean. Dirty contacts may
lead to improper welding and also to overheated and fused cable con-
nectors. Eliminate visible deposits as needed. Protect connectors from
getting dirty in all cases. If a deposit layer has formed that cannot be
eliminated entirely or if the the fit when contacting becomes less tight,
then replace the cable connectors or adapters. Adapters should be con-
sidered consumables and, therefore, have to be checked before each
welding operation (see parts list at the end of this manual).

Reading the Fitting Code with the Scanning Pen
The bar code on the tag sticking on the fitting to be welded is the only
one that can be used. If the code tag of the fitting to be welded is in poor
condition and cannot be read, use the tag of an identical fitting from the
same manufacturer and belonging to the same batch of production. It is
not acceptable to read the bar code tag of a fitting of a different kind.
To read the fitting code, place the scanning pen next to the tag, inclining
it slightly, and move it consistently and quickly across the bar code left-
to-right or right-to-left. If the data are correctly read, this is confirmed by
an audible signal and the decoded data on the screen (see Display 3).
The ambient temperature is also measured and displayed. The "Start ?"
message means that the welding unit is ready to start the welding pro-
cess. Check the data read and if you see that there are errors, delete
them by pressing the STOP/RESET key. The read data are also deleted
if the welding unit is disconnected from the fitting.
5.5
Starting the Welding Process
The welding process can be started by pressing the START key, when the
"Start ?" message is displayed on the screen and there is no indication
of a problem. After the START key was pressed, a confirmation message
"Pipe treated?" is displayed, which has to be reacted to by pressing the
START key again to start the welding proper.
5.6
Welding Process
The welding process is monitored for its entire duration applying the
welding parameters contained in the fitting code. If a parameter is out-
side tolerance, the welding is aborted and the error is displayed in plain
text on the screen.
5.7
End of Welding
The welding process has ended successfully when the actual welding
time is equal to the nominal welding time and the audible signal buzzes
twice. In case of welding errors, the welding process aborts, an error
message is displayed in plain text on the screen, and the audible signal
buzzes continuously. An error has to be reacted to by pressing the STOP/
RESET key.
5.8
Cooling Time
The cooling time as given in the fitting manufacturer's instructions has to
be respected. If the bar code provided by the fitting manufacturer contains
information on the cooling time, it will be displayed on the screen at the
