Nominal flow rate
The nominal flow rate for one collector array
(max. 5 collectors) is 100 to 300 l/h. Collector
arrays must be connected in parallel; here the
flow rate is added on to the flow rate for each
additional collector array, i.e. where a system
has three times three collectors, the flow rate is
300 to 900 l/h.
Thermal insulation
Use temperature and UV-resistant insulating
material to provide thermal insulation for the
external pipes:
- mineral wool backed by aluminium mesh foil
- flexible EPDM hose (e.g. types like Aeroflex
®
Armaflex
)
It is advisable to used a fixed armour made
of aluminium sheet for the mineral wool.
The EPDM hose can be finished with UV-
resistant paint. Where required, protect the
thermal insulation against bird or rodent
attack. Insulate all pipes in accordance with
EnEV2002, appendix 5; e.g. for a DN 20 pipe
with thermal resistance of O = 0.035 W/(mK),
select a minimum thickness of d = 20 mm.

For insulation material with a different
thermal resistance, re-calculate the thickness
of the insulating layer.
Cylinder
In a standard solar heating system, the
collectors connected in series are linked to the
solar DHW cylinder 300-600 l.
Observe the cylinder installation instructions.
Cylinder temperature sensor
In the SBB . . plus cylinder the cylinder sensor
is fitted in the immersion pipe of the lower
bare-tube internal indirect coil. The sensor is
coated with heat-conducting paste and pushed
into the immersion tube as far as it will go.
The sensor, including its lead, must be
adequately secured (e.g. cable tie).
Collector sensor well
The collector sensor well must be
A B
positioned at the top l.h. or r.h. side of the
collector. For this, install the sealed-in collector
sensor well on the collector. The control unit
collector sensor is coated with heat-conducting
paste and pushed into the collector sensor well
as far as it will go. Secure the lead.
Thermal insulation is fitted to the collector
sensor well, threaded fittings and roof/
outlet duct; seal the joints of this insulation; the
material must also be resistant to temperature
and UV.
