7.2 Microphones

Microphones with an XLR plug or a 6.3 mm plug
can be connected to the combined XLR / 6.3 mm
jacks (25) of the inputs CH 1 – 4.
1) Use a small screwdriver to turn the control
GAIN (27) for input amplification towards
"MIC". If required, adjust the control during
operation. (If the announcement via this input
is not loud enough, turn the control clockwise;
if the announcement is distorted, turn the
control counter-clockwise.)
2) If a microphone requires phantom power,
press the switch PHANTOM POWER (26).
The phantom power (15 V ) will only be
available at the XLR contacts of the jack.
CAUTION!
1. To prevent loud switching noise, use the
switch only when the amplifier has been
switched off, the outputs have been muted
or the control MASTER (6) has been set to
"0".
2. When phantom power has been activated,
no microphone with unbalanced signal out-
put may be connected; otherwise, the
microphone may be damaged.
When the desk microphone PA-4300PTT is
used, it will take up channel CH 1; in this case,
no microphone may be connected to the XLR/
6.3 mm jack CH 1.
Note: A microphone at the XLR/6.3 mm jack CH 2 has
the same priority as the signal of a zone paging micro-
phone PA-2500RC and as a signal source at the con-
nections PAGING IN (19). Therefore, the signal of this
microphone will not be muted when announcements via
the zone paging microphone or the PAGING input are
being made.

7.3 Sound sources with line level

1) Connect units with a mono output to the com-
bined XLR/ 6.3 mm jacks (25) of the inputs
CH 1 – 4. Use a small screwdriver to turn the
control GAIN (27) for input amplification
towards "LINE". If required, adjust the control
during operation. (If the signal via this input is
not loud enough, turn the control clockwise; if
the sound is distorted, turn the control
counter-clockwise.)
Disengage the switch PHANTOM POWER
(26) if the sound source does not explicitly
require phantom power (phantom power only
at the XLR contacts of the jack).
The jacks support balanced signals.
Sound sources with unbalanced signals can
be connected via 2-pole 6.3 mm plugs or via
an XLR plug where the contacts 1 and 3 are
connected. They can of course also be con-
nected to one of the RCA jacks (24) of the
channels CH 5 or CH 6.
When the desk microphone PA-4300PTT is
used, it will take up channel CH 1; in this
case, no unit may be connected to the XLR/
6.3 mm jack CH 1.
Note: A sound source at the XLR/ 6.3 mm jack CH 2
has the same priority as the signal of a zone paging
microphone PA-2500RC and as a signal source at
the connections PAGING IN (19). Therefore, the
signal of this sound source will not be muted when
announcements via the zone paging microphone or
the PAGING input are being made.
For input signals that require a higher priority,
use the input CH 2 or the input PAGING IN
(19) with the plug-in screw terminals (e. g. for
a microphone with pre-amplifier or for the line
level output of a telephone system).
2) Connect units with a stereo output (e. g. CD
players) to the RCA jacks (24) of the inputs
CH 5 or CH 6. The two stereo channels will be
mixed in the amplifier to create a mono sig-
nal.
The inputs CH 3 – 6 have the lowest priority; they
will be automatically muted by a signal at an
input of higher priority (
table in figure 5, chap-
ter 3).

7.4 Desk microphone PA-4300PTT

With this microphone (separate accessory,
figure 3), announcements of the highest pri-
ority can be made. The PA zones where the
announcements are to be audible are defined at
the amplifier.
1) Connect the jack OUTPUT (34) of the PA-
4300PTT to the RJ-45 jack PA-4300PTT
(30), using the cable supplied, for example.
2) Another PA-4300PTT can be connected to
each PA-4300PTT: Connect the jack LINK
(35) to the jack OUTPUT (34) of another PA-
4300PTT etc. until a maximum of 3 desk
microphones and the amplifier are connected
with each other. The total length of the con-
nection cable may not exceed 1000 m.
3) The desk microphone will take up channel
CH 1; therefore, no microphone may be con-
nected to the XLR / 6.3 mm jack CH 1 at the
same time.
4) Use a small screwdriver to turn the control
GAIN (27) at the input CH 1 to the right stop
(−50).
5) The PA-4300PTT requires phantom power;
therefore, press the button PHANTOM (26) at
the input CH 1.
Caution: To prevent loud switching noise, use the
switch only when the amplifier has been switched
off, the outputs have been muted or the control
MASTER (6) has been set to "0".

7.5 Zone paging microphone PA-2500RC

With this zone paging microphone (separate
accessory,
figure 4), announcements of
higher priority can be made. On each PA-
2500RC, it is possible to select the PA zone
where the announcement shall be audible. In
addition, it is possible to call up stored messages
from the insertion module PA-1120DMT.
1) Use the switch 6 of the right DIP switch block
(42) located on the rear side of the zone pag-
ing microphone to define the amplifier with
which the zone paging microphone is to be
used:
Position ON
= PA-2510D (10 zones)
Upper position
= PA-2520D (20 zones)
2) Connect the jack LINK (40) of the PA-
2500RC to the RJ-45 jack PA-2500RC
REMOTE RECEIVER (29) of the amplifier,
using the cable supplied, for example.
Another zone paging microphone can be
connected to each zone paging microphone:
Connect the jack INPUT (39) to the jack LINK
(40) of another PA-2500RC etc. until a maxi-
mum of 32 zone paging microphones and the
amplifier are connected with each other. The
total length of the connection cable may not
exceed 1000 m.
3) To prevent interference during signal trans-
mission, make sure that the connection cable
is properly terminated: On the final unit in the
chain, set the switch 6 (TERMINATION) of
the DIP switch block (41) to the lower position
(ON). On all the other units, the switch must
remain in the upper position.
4) The amplifier provides the zone paging
microphones with supply voltage. The supply
voltage will be insufficient if more than 3 zone
paging microphones are connected to an
amplifier or if a cable connection of too much
length is used.
The LED LOW POWER (49) at the paging
zone microphone will indicate any insufficient
supply voltage. In this case, connect a regu-
lated power supply unit with a low voltage
plug 5.5 / 2.1 mm (outer / inner diameter) to the
jack 24 V (38). Observe the polarity: centre
contact = ⊕.
The supply voltage provided by the power
supply unit will be routed to the zone paging
microphones that are connected to the jacks
INPUT (39) and LINK (40). Thus, these zone
paging microphones do not require a power
supply unit of their own if the power supply
unit connected to the jack 24 V
sufficient current (current consumption of
each PA-2500RC: 130 mA).

7.5.1 Setting unit addresses

For communication between the amplifier and
the zone paging microphones to work, the PA-
2500RC connected must have different data bus
addresses. To assign the addresses (as binary
code), use the switches 1 – 5 "I.D." of the DIP
switch block (41) located on the rear side of the
zone paging microphones.
Note: Always switch off the amplifier prior to address
assignment; any address changes made during oper -
ation will not be recognised.

7.6 Recorder, monitor system

A recorder, a monitor system or an additional
amplifier system can be connected to the jacks
REC (23). Here, the mixed signal of all inputs is
available, regardless of the setting of the control
MASTER (6). L (left) and R (right) RCA jacks are
provided for stereo recorders. Since the ampli-
fier is monophonic, the signals at the two jacks
are identical.

7.7 Switching inputs

For remote control of the amplifier by means of
switching contacts, the following plug-in screw
terminal pairs (20) are available.

7.7.1 Pushbutton for chime triggering

To trigger the chime by remote control, connect
a pushbutton to the terminals CHIME CTRL.
7.7.2 Remote-controlled switch-on and
switch-off
To switch the amplifier on and off by remote con-
trol, connect the normally open contact to the ter-
minals POWER REMOTE.
Note: When the contact POWER REMOTE is closed, it
will not be possible to switch off the amplifier with the
button POWER (9).

7.7.3 Alarm input

Via a normally open contact at the terminals E / M
MESSAGE CTRL, the amplifier for an emer-
gency announcement is activated (if not already
in operation) and all zone outputs are selected;
for the model PA-2510D, the zone volume is
additionally set to −3 dB. If a message storage
module is installed (e. g. PA-1120DMT), a stored
emergency announcement can be automatically
reproduced.
