1 Introduction

The CM-SW-01 compressor module integrates the en-
tire electronic periphery of the compressor:
The CM-SW-01 monitors the essential operating para-
meters of the screw compressor and protects it from
operation under critical conditions. The module controls
the compressor depending on the capacity require-
ments of a superior system controller. It controls the ca-
pacity and, depending on the compressor type, the in-
ternal volume ratio (V
), the oil heater, the oil injection
i
and optionally the oil return. The module provides
voltage supply for the associated solenoid valves. It en-
sures an unloaded compressor start and switches the
motor contactors on and off during the start. Additional
time relays are not required. The high pressure switch
can be connected directly to the compressor module.
During operation, numerous operating data of the com-
pressor can be tracked using the BEST SOFTWARE,
for example the operating point in the application limits
diagram. These data are recorded and allow the sys-
tem operation to be diagnosed. Four coloured LEDs in-
dicate the operating condition of the compressor mod-
ule.
The compressor module is part of the standard scope
of delivery of the compressor series HS.95, CS.105
and OS.95, and steplessly adjusts the capacity of these
compressors. For OS.85 compressors in ammonia ver-
sion, the CM-SW-01 can be delivered pre-installed as
an option. It operates the 4-step capacity control of this
compressor series.
This Technical Information describes the CM-SW-01:
the operating and monitoring functions, the electrical
connection of the compressor module and the commu-
nication with the BEST SOFTWARE. For detailed in-
formation on Modbus programming and additional tech-
nical data, see BEST SOFTWARE.

2 Safety

Compressor and compressor module have been built in
accordance with state-of-the-art methods and current
regulations. Particular importance was placed on user
safety.
The notes given in the Operating Instructions of the
compressor must be followed in addition to this Tech-
nical Information.
Always keep the Operating Instructions and this Tech-
nical Information in the vicinity of the refrigeration sys-
tem during the whole lifetime of the compressor.

2.1 Authorized staff

All work done on the compressors, the refrigeration
systems and their electronic accessories may only be
performed by qualified and authorized personnel who
have been trained and instructed accordingly. The local
regulations and guidelines will apply with respect to the
qualification and expertise of the specialists.

2.2 Residual risks

Compressors, electronic accessories and further sys-
tem components may present unavoidable residual
risks. Therefore, any person working on it must care-
fully read this document! The following are mandatory:
• relevant safety regulations and standards
• generally accepted safety rules
• EU directives
• national regulations and safety standards
Example of applicable standards: EN378, EN60204,
EN60335, EN ISO14120, ISO5149, IEC60204,
IEC60335, ASHRAE 15, NEC, UL standards.

2.3 Safety references

are instructions intended to prevent hazards. Safety ref-
erences must be stringently observed!

!
Safety reference to avoid situations which may
result in damage to a device or its equipment.
CAUTION
Safety reference to avoid a potentially hazard-
ous situation which may result in minor or mod-
erate injury.
WARNING
Safety reference to avoid a potentially hazard-
ous situation which could result in death or seri-
ous injury.
