2.9 Inspecting the steam installation
Steam line with fixed piping
If the steam line is installed using rigid piping (copper or stainless steel pipe:
Ø45 mm), please observe the following instructions:
- To minimise the condensate formation (=loss), the steam pipes must be insulated.
The minimum bend radius for rigid piping is 100 mm.

- Connection of the steam pipe to the steam distribution head is effected by means
of short lengths of steam hose secured with hose clamps.
Use original Defensor condensate hose exclusively. Other types of hoses can
cause operational malfunctions.
The hose layout depends on the position of the steam distribution head:
- Steam distribution head is mounted above the top edge of the unit:
Condensate hose is led down to the humidifier with a minimum slope of 20 %,
in the form of a siphon (min. hose bend radius Ø200 mm ), and inserted about
2 cm into the specified opening.
Steam distribution head is mounted below the top edge of the unit:

Condensate hose is led down with a minimum slope of 20 %, in the form of
a siphon (min. hose bend radius Ø200 mm), directly into a discharge funnel.
Important! Before putting the unit into operation, the siphon of the condensate hose
must be filled with water.
Use the following check list to ascertain that the steam installation was performed
correctly:
- Steam distribution head
- Steam distribution head correctly secured (screws tightened)?
- Outlet across the air stream?
- Steam hose
- Maximum length of 4 m?
- Minimum bend radius of 300 mm?
- Height above top edge of steam humidifier at least 300 mm?
- Upslope of at least 20 % or downslope of at least 5 %, respectively?
- Steam hose: no sagging (condensate pocket)?
- Rigid steam lines: properly insulated?
- Steam hose securely attached with clamps?
- Heat expansion during operation and shortening of the hose with ageing
taken into consideration?
- Condensate hose
- Downslope of at least 20 %?
- Siphon existing and filled with water?
- Condensate hose securely attached?
