Glossary

1-to-1 cable A UTP cable used to connect the StecaGrid Connect to
a router, or via a switch or router to another device in a
local network.
Access Point A device used to connect a wired device to a wireless
network.
Crossover cable
A UTP cable with crossed-over conductors used to direct-
ly connect the StecaGrid Connect to a PC.
IP address A unique combination of four numbers ranging from 0
to 55 (e.g. : 19.168.0.1) used to uniquely identify a
device in a local area network.
LAN Abbreviation for "Local Area Network".
Modem A device used to connect a local area network with the
Internet.
Photovoltaic system
A system that converts solar energy into electricity.
Port
Distinguishes different connections to the same IP ad-
dress.
RJ45 A type of connector used in local area networks.
Router A device for data distribution and coupling of multiple
networks.
Standard gateway An IP address used within a local network for accessing
other networks and/or the Internet.
Subnet mask A combination of four numbers (0 - 55) that defines
the maximum number of IP addresses available in a lo-
cal area network. For example, if the subnet mask is
55.55.55.0, the first, second, and third numbers of
all IP addresses in the local area network must be the
same.
Switch
A device used to connect several components to a local
area network.
Inverter A device used to convert direct current into mains grid
conformant alternating current as part of a photovoltaic
system.
