Example 2: Wireless connection with several PCs
This example provides a brief overview of how you can connect several PCs to sev-
eral StecaGrid Connect devices. Most of the configuration is done on the WLAN
router used for the connection, so a detailed description is not possible here.

Installation

One or more StecaGrid Connect devices are connected to the first WLAN router.
Us a 1-to-1 cable for this. The PCs are also connected to the second router using
a 1-to-1 cable. If not enough sockets are available on one or more of the routers,
then use one additional switch per router.

The WLAN routers

The routers must be operated in bridge mode to allow them to access both net-
work segments. You will details on how to configure this in the operator's manual
for the routers.
NOTE
In the network segment where the PCs are located, if the router allows it you
can use DHCP for automatic configuration of the IP settings (IP addresses, sub-
net masks, Gateway).
In the segment where the StecaGrid Connect devices are located, you must
perform the IP settings manually because the StecaGrid Connect does not sup-
port DHCP.

Creating a connection to the Internet

The example in this chapter provides an overview of how you can connect the
StecaGrid Connect to the Internet via a DSL router. In accordance with this de-
scription, routers with other internal or external Internet modems can also be
used (analogue, ISDN, GSM, etc.). The large number of possible methods of con-
necting to the Internet means that a complete description is only possible in con-
junction with the specific hardware used.
Installation
Use a 1-to-1 cable to connect the StecaGrid Connect to a DSL router.

The DSL router (ADSL router)

The DSL router is a combination of a router and a DSL modem (or ADSL modem)
for Internet access. The router must have an Ethernet interface in order to con-
nect the StecaGrid Connect. Some routers also have additional WLAN capabilities,
which you can use to access your StecaGrid system data on-site using a WLAN
capable notebook.
